The tournament will feature a prize pool of INR 10,00,000. Further details are yet to be announced.
Krafton aims to cultivate India’s relatively small strategy based player base with this tournament as this might set things in motion for the title’s competitive growth in India.

KRAFTON, the South Korean video game developer has today announced the first Road To Valor: Empires Open Championship with a total prize pool of INR 10 Lakh. The strategy game was released in India in March 2023 in partnership with S8UL, one of India’s biggest gaming organizations that won the “Content group of the Year” award at the Esports Awards 2022.

Now, as the game is seeking to expand its hold on India’s competitive gaming space, it has announced its first official tournament within just two months of its release. “Strategy gaming in India has witnessed a surge in emerging talent, and this tournament aims to provide a platform for players to refine their skills and make a mark in the world of Esports,” said the publishers in a release.

The CEO of KRAFTON, Inc. India, Sean Hyunil Sohn, expressed enthusiasm for this tournament and highlighted its significance for the Indian gaming market. ”We believe India has a strong talent pool in strategy gaming, and we hope this tournament provides a platform for all aspiring players in this segment. India has always been an important market for us, and we are committed to nurturing the Esports ecosystem in the country,” he said.

Teams and Schedule are yet to be finalized

Krafton also confirmed in the release that the tournament will commence in June 2023. They further assured that dates and additional details regarding the tournament will soon be made public.

This comes just days after Krafton announced the re-launch of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), India’s most popular gaming title so far that played a pivotal role in shaping India’s esports ecosystem to what it is today. In another surprising move, the video game company has also revamped the BGMI Esports Channel to Krafton India Esports. “The KRAFTON INDIA ESPORTS YouTube Channel will serve as a hub for all Esports enthusiasts, offering engaging content, thrilling competitions, and updates on KRAFTON’s Esports events” mentioned the official release

Road to Valor: Empires currently has 100 Thousand+ downloads on the Google Play Store with a rating of 4.2.  As the game doesn’t have an esports base yet, the tournament is to be perceived as an open-to-all amateur league from where talents from grassroot level will be exposed to bigger opportunities.

Krafton’s mobile gaming strategy has always been Indian focused. The company has shown commitment on enhancing the start-up ecosystem in India; and so far, the company has invested close to $100 million in several Indian startups in the field of interactive entertainment, gaming, esports and technology.
