What is esports?
The term “esports” itself has multiple definitions that keep evolving as new games, platforms, tournament formats and other stakeholders emerge in the industry. In the absence of a globally accepted definition, our coverage is guided by the following definition of esports (subject to change). We classify a game as an esports title when it meets ALL of the following broad criteria (subject to change):
Must be multiplayer
Must have organized, spectator-friendly competitions
Must be winnable primarily on the basis of skill, not chance
AFK Gaming commits to do its best to publish accurate information across all its content. We take many steps to ensure accuracy: We investigate claims with skepticism; question assumptions; challenge conventional wisdom and seek to corroborate what sources tell us by talking with other informed people or consulting documents. We aim to verify content, such as technical terms, stats, etc., against source documents or make clear who is providing the information and may share relevant components of a story with a primary source or an outside expert to verify them. We aim to provide information as accurately as possible, and if it’s not, we will change it as quickly as possible and be transparent with our readers about the magnitude of the error. We guide our staff writers to ask the following questions when they double-check information.
How do you know?
How can you be sure?
Where is the evidence?
Who is the source, and how does the source know?
What is the supporting documentation?
While we make significant efforts to avoid errors in our content and coverage, it is inevitable that we will make mistakes from time to time. If you believe that a story published on AFK Gaming is inaccurate, please contact the editorial team via firstname.lastname@example.org. Once verified, we will implement the corrections on our website at the earliest. If appropriate, we will include a note on the story indicating that a correction has been made.
