The Arena mode or the 2v2v2v2 team deathmatch mode is a mashup of League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics.
Players are wondering if this game mode will eventually be made permanent.
Here’s what Riot Games has to say about the future of Arena mode.

The last few weeks have looked incredibly busy on the League of Legends Public Beta Environment (PBE) client with players flocking over to play the 2v2v2v2 or the Arena Mode. The Arena mode, which is an amalgamation of Teamfight Tactics (TFT) and League of Legends, will be releasing on 20th July along with the big 2023 Summer Event: Soul Fighter. With many players branding the new game mode as “fun,” the big question that looms over is whether it would be made into a permanent game mode in League of Legends.

We have had updates regarding this very question and Lead Gameplay Designer Bryan “Riot Axes” Salvatore recently addressed it. In this article, we shall dive into the seasonal and permanent game modes in League of Legends and how long the Arena mode would be available.

Arena Mode’s Availablity in League of Legends

If you have been playing the game for a few years, you must know that Riot Games releases featured game modes around particular seasons that are made available through the system called the ‘Rotating Game Mode’ queue. Unlike the permanent modes including Summoner’s Rift and Howling Abyss, these modes are spaced out throughout the year or during in-game events.

The Arena Mode is currently a featured game mode in League of Legends where players battle each other in four teams of two. They power up their champions with Augments and items and fight until there’s just one team standing.

Prominent League of Legends streamers and personalities have been praising this game and have hinted at Arena possibly “saving” League of Legends.

Danny "foggedftw2tweeted, “I haven’t been really enjoying league going on about two years now besides a few moments in time. This new arena 2v2 mode is SO fun and so addicting. It’s been a real pleasure to stream.

League of Legends EMEA [Europe, Middle East & Africa] caster and streamer Marc “Caedrel” Lamont also mirrored the same feeling.

The game mode is quick, and entertaining and throws players right into battle without having to scale through  The player base has been echoing the same sentiment about the Arena mode, pointing out that it is really fun to play and should be made permanent.

This opinion from the community has prompted Riot Games developers to talk about the future of Arena mode in League of Legends.

Riot Games Addresses Future of Arena Mode in League of Legends

On a Reddit thread discussing the balance changes for Arena Mode, developer Riot Axes replied to a player asking whether Arena mode would stay permanent on the client.

Riot Axes said, currently, Riot’s goal is to make a great summer event mode and that there is a really good chance that the company aims to bring back a significantly-upgraded version of the mode in the long term. “There's a world where this version of the mode is so successful that we never turn it off and immediately staff up live support for it, but I want to temper expectations that would take a really huge player response that sustains over time,” he noted.

Though Riot Games would love for it to be permanent, it will likely aim to release an upgraded version and if the player response is strong enough, it would change its plans accordingly, noted the dev. Although, there is no timeline for this move as of now.

When Is Arena Mode Releasing?

Notably, the big Soul Fighter 2023 Summer Event is scheduled to kick off on 20th July with LoL Patch 13.14 and this is the same date as Naafiri’s release. This is when the 2v2v2v2 or the Arena Mode will also go live. The summer event and the game mode will be live on the client till 28th August.
