The Gamers8 festival in Riyadh featuring a multitude of esports titles including Rainbow Six Siege (R6) is underway. The Gamers8 Rainbow Six Siege 2023 tournament features a massive prize pool and it has brought together some of the most popular teams in a fight for glory and bragging rights. The tournament kicked off on 13th July with the Group Stage and eight teams and after two days of intense R6 brawl, we have the top four teams that have advanced to the Playoffs stage: M80, Team Falcons, Team BDS, and w7m Esports.

The biggest headline from this event is the early exit of world champions G2 Esports from the group stage.

Here’s all you need to know about the Group Stage of Gamers8 Rainbow Six Siege 2023 tournament.

Four Teams March On to the Playoffs

The format of the ongoing Gamers8 Rainbow Six Siege 2023 tournament is the same as last year: The group stage started off with two groups with four teams each. We witnessed back-to-back R6 games through the Upper Bracket Semi-finals and Upper Bracket Finals on 13th and 14th July.

Firstly, a refresher of the teams that participated in the group stage:

  • G2 Esports

  • Oxygen Esports

  • w7m Esports

  • Team Falcons

  • Team BDS

  • M80

  • Ninjas in Pyjamas

  • CYCLOPS athlete gaming

The two groups took part in a double-elimination bracket with the winners of the first round from Group A and B advancing to the Upper Bracket Final, from where the winner received a direct ticket to the Grand Final in the Playoff stage. Whereas, the losers in the first round and the Upper Finals got another chance to fight in the lower bracket.

In Group A, Team Falcons and Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) went head-to-head in the opening round and NiP won the series comfortably with a 2-0 scoreline. Likewise, in the other series, M80 won against world champion G2 Esports with a 2-1 score. The Upper Bracket finals between M80 and NiP was an interesting one with the best-of-three series going all the way. M80 won on Border and NiP won on Villa. However, it was M80 that came out on top in the decider Chalet map.

Meanwhile, Team Falcons had an incredible run in the lower bracket of Group A as it defeated both G2 Esports (2-0) and NiP (2-1) to secure a spot in the Playoffs.

So the teams for Group A that advanced to the Playoffs are:

  • M80

  • Team Falcons

In Group B, Oxygen Esports took on Team BDS in the first Upper Bracket round and BDS won the series with a 2-0 score. In the other series, w7m Esports also won against CYCLOPS with a strong 2-0 performance. However, after winning the second round in the Upper Bracket, Team BDS directly made it to the playoffs, while w7m was sent down to the lower bracket.

While Oxygen Esports was able to win against CYCLOPS in the lower bracket, it did not stand a chance against w7m Esports as it lost the series 2-0.

The teams from Group B that are in the Playoffs are:

  • Team BDS

  • w7m Esports

The straightforward Playoff stage – two semi-finals and a grand final – is all set to kick off on 15th July. With this being a single-elimination bracket, the stakes are very high for all the teams competing.
