OG was the 18th and the last team to qualify for The International 10 (TI10) after a grueling run in the Western Europe (WEU) qualifier. As a result of their TI history, they will be one of the more feared teams going into the event despite not being at their peak currently. The position four player for Evil Geniuses, Andreas Franck "Cr1t-" Nielsen, expressed the opinion that, from a competitive standpoint, it would have been better not to have OG at TI. However, personally, Cr1t- said he was also quite happy to see his former teammate, Syed Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan, qualify for TI10.
Cr1t- explains why OG qualifying for TI10 is the “best outcome”
Having finished top two in each of the two regional leagues, as well as the two Majors, Cr1t-'s Evil Geniuses were the most consistent team in this DPC 2021. This consistency and superior gameplay led to them being the first team this year to qualify for TI10. As 16 more teams reserved a slot for the event, the final team to complete the 18-team list was OG.
The team had just recruited SumaiL in the carry role before the qualifier and despite not having the best form, the team managed to outlast its opponents.
Cr1t-, who has played with SumaiL for a long time in Evil Geniuses, was glad that he qualified for TI10 after having a difficult year. Furthermore, although Cr1t- initially said it would be better to not have OG compete at TI10 because of competitive reasons, he was also in favor of their qualification because the hype around the event would remain intact.
Obviously from a competitive standpoint, I would have preferred them to not qualify. But I am very happy for SumaiL. He had a pretty rough year and he is still a very good friend of mine. I am really happy for him and also, for the hype of the tournament, it’s really good that they are going. Yeah, I think it’s just the best outcome for everybody to be honest.Cr1t-
The buzz that OG brings is also evident in the numbers, with their match against Team Nigma in the lower bracket finals of TI10's WEU qualifier attracting a peak viewership of 546,300. Also, their grand final series against Tundra Esports attracted a lot of viewers, reaching a peak viewership of 502,467. It was an intense series, and despite Tundra seemingly being the better team until the grand final, OG outperformed its opponents when it mattered the most.
Cr1t- also had words of appreciation for OG and Tundra Esports as he talked about this epic grand final brawl.
Oh yeah, it was very sad for Tundra. Honestly, I think, at a lot of points, in this qualifier, they played like the better team but OG is just so much experienced that when it mattered, they just pull through. Not surprised to be honest.Cr1t-
From 7th-17th October, Evil Geniuses and OG will compete at TI10 in Bucharest, Romania. At TI9, while OG won the Championship, Evil Geniuses finished 5th-6th.
