Riot Games looks to increase Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022 prize pool through skin sales
Crowdfunding for events is a common practice to increase a tournament’s prize pool. It is used by major esports titles such as Dota 2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) as well as mobile esports titles such as Honor of Kings and Vainglory. Developers usually announce new in-game items such as a Battle Pass, or skins and a portion of its sales will be added to the tournament’s prize pool.
Riot Games has decided to implement this in Wild Rift through the upcoming Majestic Empress Morgana skin. According to ChowZ, 25% of the sales from the skin will be added to the prize pool of the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022. This announcement was allegedly made in the Chinese version of the game. This allows fans to support their favorite teams by increasing the total prize pool beyond $2 million USD by purchasing the skin.
The price of the Majestic Empress Morgana skin in Wild Rift is yet to be confirmed by Riot Games. According to ChowZ, the price for the Global version may be around 990 Wild Cores. However, players will have a small discount when purchasing the skin within its first week of release.
There may also be cosmetics themed around the upcoming Wild Rift Icons Global Championship 2022. However, no further details have yet been announced.
