Marvel Snap Wins Best Mobile Game at The Game Awards 2022
An unexpected winner or a deserving one?!
The Game Awards took place on 8th December at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California announcing winners of all 31 categories including 'Best Mobile Game' of the year, which was awarded to Marvel Snap.
Considering the lineup of mobile games that the card battle game was up against, Marvel Snap walking away as the winner was a bit of a surprise. Other titles nominated under the category were Apex Legends Mobile, Diablo Immortal, Genshin Impact, and Tower of Fantasy.
The Game Awards 2022: Marvel Snap wins the title of ‘Best Mobile Game'
The nominees under the category of 'Best Mobile Game' for The Game Awards 2022 were quite stacked this year with heavy-hitting releases like Apex Legends Mobile and Diablo Immortal.
Apex Legends Mobile developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by EA (Electronic Arts) was released in May 2022 across Android and iOS. The game has already bagged both 'Best Google Play Game of 2022' and 'iPhone Game of the Year', but still failed to win at The Game Awards 2022.
Diablo Immortal published by Blizzard Entertainment in June 2022 is a free-to-play Action RPG which is set somewhere between the events of Diablo II and Diablo III. Despite the hyped release, this game was a massive let down due to its aggressive microtransaction model which disappointed many across the gaming community.
Genshin Impact could not win under this category but did manage to win the 'Players' Voice Award' following a close fight against Sonic Frontiers. However, this was not the title's year to become the mobile game of the year.
Tower of Fantasy is another free-to-play, open world, action RPG (Role Play Game) mobile title that was released in December last year and was developed by Hotta Studio which is a subsidiary of Perfect World.
Going up against all these titles, not many thought that Marvel Snap would be able to claim this category being a digital collectible card game that was properly released in October this year after a brief period of beta testing.
The game developed by Second Dinner and published by Nuverse for Microsoft Windows is available across Android and iOS, featuring different set of characters from the Marvel Universe.
