Kid Shouts Out Bill Clinton at The Game Awards 2022, Gets Arrested
What just happened?
Those watching The Game Awards 2022 were not expecting the events that transpired towards the show's end. An unidentified person crashed The Game Awards 2022 stage after Elden Ring was named the winner of the “Game of the Year” award. The show concluded with Elden Ring taking home the Game of the Year (GOTY) award and host Geoff Keighley confirmed that the show will be back in 2023. Elden Ring won four awards while God of War Ragnarok won six, conceding the GOTY award to the former. But, the unidentified person’s speech on stage and his shout-out to former United States president Bill Clinton has taken the internet by storm. However, Geoff Keighley later revealed that the person has been arrested.
People on stage at The Game Awards 2022 were visibly confused
The unidentified person seemed to have followed Elden Ring game director Hidetaka Miyazaki and his translator up on stage after presenter Josef Fares announced the win. While going up the stage, the kid shook the hands of an Elden Ring developer and stood behind Miyazaki as the creative director received the award. However, as the developers were about to leave the stage, the person walked toward the microphone and shouted out Bill Clinton. He said, “You know real quick. I want to thank everybody and say that… I think I want to nominate this award to my reformed orthodox rabbi Bill Clinton. Thank you, everybody”
While the developers were confused about what had happened, the security got on stage and ushered the person away. Soon after, Keighley wrote on Twitter, “The individual who interrupted our Game of the Year moment has been arrested.”
It is evident from the livestream that the kid had gotten up along with the FromSoftware developers as they went up the stage to accept the award. He was also nervously moving back and forth and seemingly watching the big screens around as Miyazaki was delivering his thank-you speech.
As a result of this person’s 15 seconds of fame, Bill Clinton was trending on Twitter alongside The Game Awards hashtag. Notably, the person’s identity has not been revealed yet and we should get updates in the coming days.
Social media descended into complete mayhem and users quickly came up with jokes about the person who crashed The Game Awards stage. One comment said, “That guy was the definition of: If you look very serious [about] what you do, nobody is gonna doubt about it.”
Gaming journalist Tom Henderson wrote, “That kid has sure upped the leaking game. Shouting out Bill Clinton at The Game Awards is going to be hard to top.” Jokes aside, the situation raises questions about security and is concerning.
