Highlights
BGMI Update 3.1 drops support for older Android and iOS versions.
Minimal impact is expected as these devices are already 8 to 10 years old now and most users have already upgraded to the latest mobile systems.
Flying carpets, summoning Genies to grant wishes, and more await players in the BGMI 3.1 update.

Krafton's massively popular mobile battle royale game, BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India), is preparing to release its upcoming 3.1 Update.

While players eagerly anticipate the new content, features, and gameplay enhancements, it will also bring about a significant change as per Krafton's latest compatibility notice, which highlights all those older Android and iOS devices for whom support will be discontinued.

Older Android and iOS Devices to Lose BGMI Support

According to an official announcement on BGMI's Discord server, the game will no longer be compatible with devices running Android 4.4 (KitKat) or iOS 10 and earlier versions. This decision aims to enhance the overall gaming experience and improve customer support by upgrading to the latest Helpshift software.

The impact of this change on the player base is expected to be minimal, as the latest versions of Android (14) and iOS (17) have been available for some time. Android 4.4, released in 2013, and iOS 10, which debuted with the iPhone 5s and 5C in 2016, are now considered outdated and potentially vulnerable to security threats.

What is New in BGMI 3.1 Update: Skyhigh Spectacle

The BGMI 3.1 update has been highly anticipated, and after several delays, it's finally set to be released on 27th March 2024, Wednesday. This update brings with it an essence of Arabic culture and introduces two collaboration-based events over the next two to three months.

Among the standout features of this update are:

  1. Skyhigh Spectacle Theme Mode: This new mode takes inspiration from the world of Aladdin, featuring a visually stunning theme across three familiar maps: Erangel, Livik, and Miramar. However, the real excitement lies in Nimbus Island, a completely fresh map within Skyhigh Spectacle.

  2. New WOW Mode: The WOW mode unfolds on Nimbus Island, comprising two distinct islands where players are equipped with a Respawn Card, granting them a chance to respawn if they meet an unfortunate end. This mode introduces a genie mechanic, offering players an additional Respawn Card and features various magical elements like the Flying Carpet and Floating Ship.

  3. BGMI x Bentley Collaboration: Players can now unlock up to three Bentley cars from a selection of nine choices. This collaboration adds a touch of luxury and style to the game, allowing players to showcase their driving skills.

  4. BGMI x Mumbai Indians Collaboration: This collaboration event offers players the opportunity to acquire four new types of skins inspired by the Mumbai Indians cricket team, including designs for weapons and player costumes.

  5. Ignis X Suit and New AMR Skin: The Ignis X suit, available for both male and female characters, becomes a highlight of customization in this update. Additionally, a new skin for the Anti-Material Rifle enhances its visual aesthetics.

While the loss of support for these older operating systems may inconvenience a small number of players, Krafton's move aligns with industry standards and ensures that BGMI remains optimized for modern devices and provides a seamless gaming experience for the majority of its user base.
