The second day of the group stage of the M3 World Championships was filled with intense matches and surprising outcomes. One of the matches was arguably one of the biggest upsets in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang international esports event so far. Fans were in awe at the impressive performance put forth by the Brazilian underdog team, Keyd Stars after defeating the Mobile Legends Professional League Invitational (MPLI) 2021 champions, ONIC Esports. In a post-match interview, Keyd Stars’ MVP of the match revealed that they themselves were also surprised by the outcome and are now more determined to secure the championship title moving forward.

Keyd Star’s Luiizz led his team to victory against the MPLI 2021 champions, ONIC Esports

In an unexpected turn of events, the Brazilian team Keyd Stars, formerly known as DreamMax Esports, managed to take down one of the biggest names of the Indonesian Mobile Legends esports scene, ONIC Esports. During the second day of the M3 World Championship group stage, the Brazilian team’s gold laner Wiz “Luiizz" Henrique led his team to an impressive comeback victory against ONIC Esports.

The stakes were high for Keyd Stars as ONIC Esports had just defeated its sister team and MPL (Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League) Philippines (PH) powerhouse, ONIC PH. The early game saw the Brazilian team struggling to turn the tides in its favor due to the aggression put forth by ONIC Esports in taking objectives and split pushing lanes.

However, the team’s gold laner, Luiizz delivered an impressive outplay as he stole the Lord at the 22-minute mark and took down two of ONIC Esports’ members. This gave Keyd Stars the chance to push mid lane and clutch the victory in one of the most intense matches in the tournament so far.

An honorable mention is also in order for the team’s support, Andre "Prime" Martini with his Ested gameplay. The pro player was able to keep his team alive in teamfigths with all the utilities he could offer against ONIC Esports’ Nicky "Kiboy" Fernando and his Floryn that bolstered Adrian "Drian" Larsen Wong’s Beatrix during the late game.

According to a report from ONE Esports, the team’s MVP expressed his disbelief that his team managed to take down one of the strongest teams in the M3 World Championship.

“We are all in disbelief. There is no way to believe [this is happening],” he said. “We beat the MPL ID champion and the MPLI 2021 champion. The word right now is evolution. Both from our country and from our team,” stated Luiizz, as quoted by ONE Esports.

The match between the Indonesian team, ONIC Esports, and the Brazilian team, Keyd Stars, proves that non-South East Asian regions are indeed brimming with potential and have a lot to show off in the upcoming matches. It will be interesting to see what more surprises fans shall witness in the upcoming matches in the ongoing M3 World Championship.
