Hoyoverse, also known as miHoYo, announced that it had cut ties with Genshin Impact’s voice actor (VA) for Tighnari, Elliot Gindi. According to the game publisher, the decision was made due to a breach of contract after the VA was allegedly involved in emotional abuse, blackmail, sexism, and engaging in sexual relationships with underage fans. The issue caused an uproar among fans and some of the Genshin Impact voice actors also expressed their concerns. Hoyoverse announced that it is looking to re-cast Tighnari’s voice actor and gradually replace his voice lines in future patch updates.

Through a Twitter post, Hoyoverse, officially confirmed that Elliot Gindi would no longer voice Tighnari in Genshin Impact after the VA received a series of allegations circulated around the internet.

“After communications with the voice recording agency, we hereby confirm that Elliot Gindi, the English voice actor for Tighnari will no longer be voicing the character in subsequent versions due to a breach of contract,” Hoyoverse wrote.

Elliot Gindi was previously called out for a series of questionable acts that were revealed on Twitter. Following the backlash, Gindi apologized on his social media account before altering  the entire contents of his Twitter profile to black images.

The publisher added that it is negotiating with its voice recording agency to re-cast Tighnari’s VA in future patches. ”At present, we are communicating with the voice recording agency regarding matters of casting and re-recording. We will gradually replace Tighnari's existing in-game voice lines, and issue these updates in the corresponding announcements. Thank you for your support, Travelers!” wrote Hoyoverse.

Genshin Impact fans flocked to the post, commenting on their approval of the publisher’s decision. Some Genshin Impact VA’s who previously shared their disgust towards Gindi’s allegations also thanked Hoyoverse for taking action.

With Tighnari receiving a new VA soon, fans can expect the characters’ voice lines to be updated gradually in the future.
