Genshin Impact Fans React to Hu Tao's "Quirky" Rap During Lantern Rite Event
Genshin Impact is currently celebrating the Chinese New Year through a special event called the Lantern Rite Festival. The event offers players a plethora of rewards and entertaining in-game content such as more stories and mini-games to play solo or with friends. However, one side quest cutscene, in particular, has caught the attention of many fans which featured the Pyro character Hu Tao spitting some hot bars as she flexes her talent in the field of rapping. The cutscene in particular is the English dub version which fans considered the worst rap segment out of all the available language options in the game.
Fans agree that Hu Tao should never rap again
Major events such as the Lantern Rite is one of the few special occasions where Hoyoverse, the company behind the hit Role Playing Gacha game Genshin Impact, delivers entertaining content for its fanbase. The content usually involves original songs and enticing side quests that will help players understand and get connected with the world of Teyvat and its culture.
For this year’s Lantern Rite festival, fans were able to witness one of the poetic geniuses of the Liyue region, Hu Tao, deliver a rap solo as she joins Xinyan, another Pyro character who is well-versed in rock music, to perform the “Blaze Lilies” song on stage.
While the music that Xinyan performed was exceptional, Hu Tao’s rap solo was the total opposite with fans calling it out for being off-key and having no sense of rhyme. Some fans speculate that the rap solo was not properly localized unlike the other languages like Chinese, Korean, and Japanese which sounded way better than the English version. A lot of fans agree that the English version was lackluster which led them to post their sentiments on social media.
The Reddit user aliencreature9 attempted to fix Hu Tao's verse through the power of editing which worked wonders, albeit there were a few minor concerns because some lines were spoken too quickly and interfered with the tune.
Genshin Impact has been a target of criticism when it comes to delivering localized content, specifically the English language. It may have been one of the issues which made it hard for Hu Tao’s voice actor to rap a verse that was not written specifically as an English song.
The Chinese version of the Blazing Lilies song sounded pristine, and so did the Korean and Japanese versions. This is why a lot of fans came to an agreement that the issue lies with the poor localization of Genshin Impact.
Aside from the highly criticized Blazing Lilies rap solo by Hu Tao, the Lantern Rite received positive feedback from fans. The event is still ongoing, offering fans a ton of Primogems that they can save up to wish for their favorite Genshin Impact characters.
