Gamers who have been following BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India) tournaments lately must have noticed that the scoring system has been revamped. Now, teams get 10 points instead of 15 for getting chicken dinners while the 1 point per elimination rule remains. This has incited more aggression in esports matches as teams with more eliminations are leading the charts on the points table. In this article, we take a look at the new points system and how it is evolving the meta.

Tencent Announced New Point System for 2023 Esports Season

Previously, PUBG Mobile's publishers, Tencent and Krafton, had introduced a new point system as they announced the 2023 esports season. The 2022 season concluded with the PMGC Finals on 8th January. Ever since, teams across the globe have adapted their gameplay to accommodate the changes brought about by the new point system, which was prominent in the spring seasons of the PMPL.

As expected, BGMI Esports have also adopted the new point system that involves a 10-point structure. This distribution has been utilized since quite some time in PUBG PC championships. Tencent first introduced this system in regional tournaments for the mobile edition of the game in China at the beginning of the 2022 season. However, there are a few variations between the scoring system used in Chinese competitions and the recently established one. Notably, the national competitions in China feature 15 teams instead of the usual 16.

BGMI’s New Point Distribution for 2023

Under the previous point system, the team that secured the Chicken Dinner was awarded 15 points. However, the new system reduces this value by 5 points. The second-place finisher now receives 6 points instead of the previous 12, while the third-place finisher receives 5 points.

For the 2023 season, teams will earn points based on their standings in a single game according to the following distribution:

  • 1st Place - 10 points

  • 2nd Place - 6 points

  • 3rd Place - 5 points

  • 4th Place - 4 points

  • 5th Place - 3 points

  • 6th Place - 2 points

  • 7th Place - 1 point

  • 8th Place - 1 point

  • 9th Place - 0 points

  • 10th Place - 0 points

  • 11th Place - 0 points

  • 12th Place - 0 points

  • 13th Place - 0 points

  • 14th Place - 0 points

  • 15th Place - 0 points

  • 16th Place - 0 points

  • 1 Finish  - 1 point

Evolution of Gameplay and Strategies

Tencent has introduced various point systems since the launch of PUBG Mobile. In the earlier stages, like the 30 and 20-point systems, points per kill remained the same. In conclusion, BGMI's new point system for the 2023 esports season brings about exciting changes that will require teams to adapt their strategies. With a focus on kill-based tactics and the adjustments in point distribution, players can expect more intense and strategic competitions. No more camping your way to the top, players need to prove they have the firepower to get their hands on those prestigious titles, whether it is third-party events or global clashes like the PUBG Mobile World Invitational (PMWI). The PMWI 2023 which kicks off this July will adopt the same points system. Although no Indian teams will be appearing in this annual event, this will be the first global tournament where the audience will witness the new scoring system.
