Football Manager 2024 offers players a variety of choices to improve their squad and keep progressing through the leaderboard. Developer Sports Interactive claims that this version of the game is the most complete edition to date and it certainly shows. FM 2024 brings a host of new features and improvements such as an efficient transfer market which makes it easier to sell players who are no longer needed in your active roster.
That being said, it can be quite an ordeal to dispose of players as it comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. Whether you are planning on starting a new save or trimming down your squad, here’s how you can sell players efficiently in Football Manager 2024.
Selling Players in Football Manager 2024
Selling players in Football Manager 2024 is easier said than done as there are numerous complex factors involved before you put them out there in the transfer market. There are several methods you can use to go through with pushing out players from your club and this can sometimes be a mandatory process regardless of how big or small your club is. Here’s what you can do:
Offering Players Through the Transfer Room
The most simple and intuitive way to sell a player is to use the game’s Offer via TransferRoom feature. This is basically a renamed version of the “Offer to Clubs” feature present in FM 2023, which allows you to alert other clubs that a new player is available on the transfer market. This is a much better way than simply transfer listing the player as it allows you to either get a single payout or split the fee into installments based on performance bonuses, achievements in competitions, etc.
Smart Negotiation
This is self-explanatory but it is essential to maximize the amount of money you can earn from selling players belonging to your squad. Although it might be tempting to ask for a higher amount, it can often be counterproductive as other clubs are aware of your player’s value as well. You can attempt to make use of sell-on fees which basically extend the selling period over a brief period of time until your player completely moves from your club.
Taking Advantage of Intermediaries
Football Manager 2024 brings a new feature called intermediaries, which as the name suggests help mediate your deals, albeit for a small fee. These agents will essentially do the job for you as your Director of Football recruits them to generate new interest in a player.
Once you click on the Hire an Intermediary option, you will see a list of agents along with their scope, offer type, and the days on which you will start receiving offers. The highest fee they can charge is around 10%. You will also see your player’s expected value which is often lower than their actual value. Make sure you factor in your agent’s commission before you accept the deal as it is a mandatory fee.
Loan out the Player
If you find yourself in an unfortunate situation where no Clubs seem to show interest in your player, the wise choice would be to loan them out instead. If you are simply looking for a way to temporarily disperse a player from your squad, this might be the best option. However, if you are using this as your last resort, you must keep a few things in mind.
You will be given the option to loan out a player with a mandatory payment fee, which means the other club has to settle up and buy the player once the loan ends. This puts pressure on the Club and more often than not, they are not ready to invest in a player with uncertainties. In this situation, you might want to loan them out using an optional payment fee as they can choose whether or not to buy the specific player, based on their performance during the loan.
