At the start of the year, Riot Games noted that it wanted to strike the right balance between updating its esports ecosystem and building on reliable traditions and institutions as it continues to grow and evolve League of Legends Esports (LoL Esports). With that in mind, Riot Games introduced a plethora of format changes to Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and Worlds.

Riot Games said, "To that end, starting this year, we will introduce the Worlds Qualifying Series. While the LCK and LPL will maintain their fourth seeds seed for 2023 due to their performance over the last two years, the LEC and LCS No. 4 seeds will play each other in a best-of-5 series, with the winner advancing to Worlds."

Worlds 2023 Qualifying Event: All You Need to Know

Worlds 2023 is returning to South Korea after five years and this time teams will be playing in a revamped format starting with a Swiss format after the Play-In stage. Additionally, Riot Games will be hosting the Worlds 2023 Qualifying Series (WQS) featuring a team each from the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) and the League of Legends EMEA [Europe, Middle East & Africa] Championship (LEC) to determine the last team from the West.

While the publisher hopes to expand this series to include teams from other regions in the future, for now, it will only be just these two regions fighting for a final spot at Worlds 2023.

Here are the two teams who shall be going head-to-head in this exciting series:

  • Golden Guardians (LCS 4th seed)

  • Team BDS (LEC 4th seed)

The Worlds 2023 Qualifying Series is scheduled to take place on 9th October in South Korea at LoL Park right before Worlds kicks off. Originally, Riot intended this series to take place in North America but elected to move it to South Korea to allow the two potential teams as much time as possible to prepare, scrim and practice in Korea, and also help minimize travel before Play-In.

The series will start at 9 pm PT (8th October) or 6 am CEST on 9th October and will be livestreamed on the Riot Games channels on Twitch and YouTube.

This article will be update with the result when the Worlds 2023 Qualifying Series ends on 9th October.
