[Watch] Lil Bro Cup: Tarik Reacts to BabyJ’s “Foolproof” Cypher Setup on Ascent

Team Subroza walked away with the title of winner in the Lil Bro Cup and won the lion’s share of the cash prize on 5th December. Hosted by content creators/streamers Tarik "tarik" Celik and Ludwig Ahgren, a total of 20 pro players took part in the tournament that featured amazing gameplay and entertaining moments. The four teams – Team Subroza, Team Rossy, Team Zander, and Team BcJ – went up against one another in a highly competitive tournament and fans loved watching all their favorite pros in one place.  

In the grand final of the Lil Bro Cup, Team Subroza went up against Team Rossy and fans got to witness some spicy Cypher set-ups on Ascent during the first game of the best-of-three (BO3) series. While Cypher player Hunter “BabyJ” Schline thought he had a genius trapwire placement on mid-market near the pizzeria on Ascent, it immediately backfired. It became evident that BabyJ’s plan was not so smart and foolproof.

What did BabyJ on the Cypher do in the Lil Bro Cup?

The first map of the Lil Bro Cup final was played on Ascent and Team Subroza was on defense for the first half. Before getting into the nitty-gritty of the final, let’s look at the players and their picks on Ascent.

Subroza’s team was trailing behind on defense as it had two round wins as opposed to Rossy’s four (2-4). During the seventh round, four members of Roddy’s team were against all five members of the opposing team. BabyJ on the Cypher was watching Mid-Market with a one-way trap on the market entrance. Notably, he also laid out a trip wire on the ground near the small box at the pizzeria in mid. Watching this play out live, tarik said, “Oh my god! The thing is he has the wire so low so he’s gonna hear him [Rossy] jump.”

While the idea of laying the tripwire was actually genius, what BabyJ had failed to account for was the small box that enemies can jump onto to cross the wire without tripping or destroying it. 

Rossy easily crossed the wire and caught BabyJ by surprise and killed him. Following this, Tarik said, “Wait, he does not account for that. Doesn’t account for that! Oh, fu**!” Alexander "Zander" Dituri, who was also on the call, asked, “What was his plan? He should have known that, right?”

However, the watch party soon acknowledged that BabyJ was the “best Cypher in the world” and that the gap with that tripwire was very minute. Tarik confidently asserted that BabyJ would never mess up that lineup again. 

Soon after this, in the 11th round, Rossy’s team already saw two players die quickly and it became a 3v5 situation favoring the defenders. At this point, on B-site, BabyJ on the Cypher sat near the door switch and had a one-way Cyber Cage waiting to be deployed over his head. As he heard Sova and Killjoy push through B-main, BabyJ peeked and got a kill onto Killjoy and immediately used the cage to move out of vision and kill Sova.

Watching this transpire, those on the watch party asked tarik not to encourage the play, calling it nerdy. Tarik said, “Well, the thing is that now I feel that Cypher is actually going to be pretty viable. Right? With these changes coming up.”

BabyJ redeemed himself with this one-way Cyber Cage on B-main after letting the one at mid-market slip away from his fingers. Team Subroza won Ascent with a 13-11 scoreline and won Fracture also with the same scoreline.
