Riot Games teased the upcoming Valorant agent – Agent 23 – in its recent Dev [developer] Diaries titled “What’s Next in 2023” which came out on 5th June. Valorant devs talked in detail about all the changes coming to Riot Games’ first-person tactical hero shooter in the latter part of 2023. They discussed the new Team Deathmatch mode, and big changes to the progression system in the game, and also teased a “shiny new” Sentinel who will soon be joining the ever-expanding roster of Valorant.
While it seems like the agent is in an early development phase, Riot Games still shared a teaser image and talked about what role the agent will be taking on in Valorant.
Having said all that, here’s all we know about Agent 23 so far, their teasers, potential lore, rumored country of origin, and much more.
Agent 23: Role, Expected Release & Other Details
Riot Games has yet to confirm or even tease the actual date of release for the next agent in Valorant. However, one should note that agent reveals have always aligned with big tournaments in the past. For instance, Gekko was revealed during Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) LOCK//IN and Fade was also announced during VCT Masters Reykjavik 2022.
With VCT Masters Tokyo 2023 coming up this month in June, we can most likely look forward to seeing more teasers or maybe even an official first look at Agent 23.
Information about upcoming agents was released by Executive Producer and Dev Team Lead Anna Donlon. She revealed that two new agents will be introduced to the game before the end of 2023, the first being a Sentinel, and the second a Duelist.
The Sentinel is Agent 23 and giving more information about this agent, Donlon said they will “stop you dead in your tracks and pull you in for a closer look."
In the teaser image that was shown, the agent can be seen wearing gloves, standing behind a workbench with some tools on it including a screwdriver, various lenses, a tablet, and some documents, along with some spools of thread. On the table, we can also spot a hot beverage, most likely coffee, and on the side, you can spot what seem to be stroop waffles.
After seeing the coffee and the waffles, the community is speculating that the agent could possibly hail from Belgium, The Netherlands, or Norway.
Twitter user uberchain wrote, “I thought the situation in the new agent's trailer was two stroopwafels for the Netherlands but it seems like it's a heart-shaped waffle, that's very Scandinavian. All recent lore has mentioned Norway so I agree with all the Norwegian agent theory.”
The user also stated that the brown stuff seen on top of the waffle could be brunost or brown cheese, a typical Norwegian dish.
However, at this juncture, we do not know what Agent 23’s abilities are or what they are actually capable of. So, we’ll keep you updated as we get more information.
