Riot Games teased Agent 21 in its recent dev blog.
The blog featured an image named samosachaat which showed a diary placed beside a cup of tea, and a plate of samosas facing the Gateway of India.

Riot Games teased the next Agent – Agent 21 – in its State of the Agents (September 2022) dev blog. Developer  John “RiotMEMEMEMEME” Goscicki spoke in detail about Agent 21. The blog made it amply clear that the new agent would be a controller since that class of agents has not been explored since the release of Astra. Riot Games also teased an exciting image in the blog post that potentially revealed the country of origin of Agent 21. Notably, the new agent will be an Indian controller who seems to enjoy piping hot samosas and a hot cuppa.

Details about Agent 21

RiotMEMEMEMEME wrote in the blog post, “Aside from Viper, introducing Controllers that can cover large open areas is a blue ocean of opportunity. We’ve let this soak long enough, and Agent 21 is almost ready to go out. I don’t want to flood you with too much information in this blurb here, so I’ll hold off on saying much more.”

From this, it looks evident that the new Indian agent will have smokes in his kit that will allow him to cover large open areas. Notably, the developer has used terms like “soak”, “blue ocean”, and “flood” – all indicative of water bodies – while talking about Agent 21. These phrases could be possible easter eggs for the agent’s kit and it is leaning towards powers of water.

Decoding the image teaser

Remember the evil eye that was teased for Fade? Riot Games is teasing Agent 21 with another image pregnant with references and easter eggs. Firstly, if you try to save the image onto your PC, you’ll notice that the image is named “samosachaat”. Additionally, we can notice a plate of samosas, an Indian street food, placed next to a diary and a cup of tea. Upon closer inspection, you should also be able to notice the Gateway of India in the background. The boats and this monument in the background indicate that Agent 21 is currently in the city of Mumbai.

The notebook and the pencil placed carefully in the middle are also indicative of certain clues. The pencil is made by the famous Indian stationery brand called Natraj. The notes in the diary include a map of India and arrows suggesting a move from the West (Mumbai) to the Eastern part of the country.

Finally, the developer signed off with a Hindi phrase: “Jald hi milte hain,” which translates to “See you soon.”

Earlier, a new email from the practice range hinted at a new unknown character, codenamed Mage, who was thought to be Valorant’s 21st agent. Though Riot Games had not made an official announcement on who Agent 21 could be, the email mentioned a new character called Varun Batra, the keeper of Legion’s new power source.

With new hints pointing towards India in the dev blog, Varun Batra, the Mage, could very well be the water-based controller who will soon be fighting alongside our agents.
