Riot Games Nerfs Miss Fortune Hours After New Patch in League of Legends

Riot Games released a hotfix nerf for Miss Fortune (MF) just hours after LoL Patch 12.17 went live on the League of Legends servers on 8th September. Her win rates in ranked spiked enormously and pushed Riot to make the changes immediately. Following this, the company is dialing down on some of the buffs surrounding her W - Strut ability. The champion was initially buffed to get players to move away from lethality builds and focus on critical strike chance and attack speed builds. Riot noted that the update of the goal is “making Q max and crit a bit less unfortunate.”

Miss Fortune hot fix nerfed mid-patch in 12.17

The buffs Miss Fortune received initially in LoL Patch 12.17 targeted her Q - Double Up’s cast time and also all other abilities in her kit. Her Arcane Comet build was nerfed but at the same time, her pick and win rates skyrocketed hours after the release of the patch.

According to U.GG, in LoL Patch 12.17 and at the time of writing, Miss Fortune is S+ tier and has a win rate of 53.45% and a pick rate of 23.4%. However, in the previous patch of 12.16, her win and pick rates were only 51.51% and 9.5%, respectively.

Taking into consideration the spike in Miss Fortune stats, Associate Game Designer Tim “truexy” Jiang wrote, “We overshot on our MF changes (cast time adjustments are always lower confidence). Her optimal AS builds are outperforming her avg win rate (already 54) by 3-4% so we're pushing out a quick adjustment.”

The new nerfs in the mid-patch update now focus on Miss Fortune’s W: Strut. Riot Games has cut the bonus attack speed on activating W by 10% at all ranks and has also increased the mana cost of the ability. Riot expects the nerfs to tone down her win rate and keep the stats in a place that is optimal right before Worlds 2022. However her Q: Double Up and E: Make it Rain buffs remain untouched.

As per the mid-patch hotfix nerf, the following are the stats for her W ability:

W: Strut

• Bonus attack speed: 50/65/80/95/110% ⇒ 40/55/70/85/100%

• Mana: 35 ⇒ 45

Notably, Miss Fortune received buffs alongside eight champions and two others who were adjusted in LoL Patch 12.17.

Riot Games also noted that LoL Patch 12.17 would be the penultimate patch before Worlds 2022 and that it wanted to introduce quite a few buffs for champions that haven’t been seeing as much play recently in both solo queue as well as pro play.
