One For All is a limited-time game mode offered by Riot Games in League of Legends. It is also played on the Summoner’s Rift where players battle it out as two teams of five as usual. The only difference between the classic mode and One For All is that all the players in the team play the same champion. Basically, five copies of the same champion of choosing will make up the team in this game mode. This mode was first made available in 2013 and has been occasionally relaunched to coincide with April Fools’ Day.

Drafting in One For All

The draft phase for choosing champions in One For All is called Vote Pick. As a first, players will be asked to ban a champion and as usual, they can also choose not to ban one. Following this, each player will then vote for a champion of their choice that they want the whole team to play. If all the players on a team or a strict majority of four players vote for the same champion, then that champion will get locked in and will be played by all players on that team. In the scenario that no champion has a majority, a random champion will be assigned from the pool of champions that were voted earlier by the players.

According to Fandom, prior to 2020, a majority of three votes was enough to lock in a champion for the team. However, Riot changed it to four votes allowing for players who are against the odds to have a fighting chance.

Gameplay possibilities

Due to the nature of team compositions in One for All, some champions and their abilities work differently in the mode. Some champions apply debuffs to enemies using their abilities even if they did not originally apply the debuff. For instance, if a team is playing Cassiopeia, they can inflict more damage using their E - Twin Fangs to a poisoned enemy even if the particular player did not apply the debuff from their Q - Noxious Blast.

Likewise, the interaction holds true for champions like Vayne and Gnar who can apply marks to enemies. By using the same champion, these marks can be triggered by other players. In the same manner, abilities like Akali’s W - Twilight Shroud can also be used by other Akalis on the team.

All these interactions make it possible for players to create unique plays in the game which otherwise would not be possible on the Summoner’s Rift. Multiple Yuumi players can cling onto another Yuumi and players can also shoot their global ultimates like Ezreal’s True Shot Barrage or Jinx’s Super Mega Death Rocket all at once.

One For All is currently up and running on Summoner’s Rift and players can play this game mode till the end of the Anima Squad mission on 2nd May.
