In the first week of March, it was widely spoken in the community that Team Heretics, competing in the League of Legends EMEA [Europe, Middle East & Africa] Championship 2024, benched mid-laner and veteran Luka "Perkz" Perković from his starting position on the team for rookie mid-laner Artur "Zwyroo" Trojan. Before this, the team also reportedly swapped support Norman "Kaiser" Kaiser with Adrian "Trymbi" Trybus.
These changes were confirmed by Team Heretics only on 5th March via a roster update video. But the organization was the center of criticism in the community for its brash and bizarre decisions. It made it clear that it wanted to start afresh in the LEC 2024 Spring Split but fans were highly skeptical of the changes.
This meant that Team Heretics and its management had to perform well in the opening week and it did just that. Team Heretics went 2-1 in the opening week of LEC Spring Split and is currently second in the standing.
Team Heretics Starts LEC Spring Split Journey Strong
The LEC 2024 Spring Season is the second split of the second year of the newly merged EMEA League of Legends system. It kicked off on 9th March and as usual, will feature three days of scheduled play every week on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The Spring split features two different stages. Stage 1 will see all ten teams competing in a best-of-one (BO1), single round-robin setup. Meanwhile, the top eight teams will advanced to Stage 2, a double-elimination playoffs stage. With two teams getting eliminated within just three weeks, the stakes are very high.
As a result, teams aim to escape the bottom two standings in the regular season of the Split. Team Heretics was one of the teams to face the heat and pressure heading into the Spring Split. It was the center of attention after its announced roster changes, which was collectively deemed "dishonest and hypocritical."
One of the biggest content creators to call out Team Heretics was former LEC caster Caedrel. He listed out multiple points conveyed in the video and pointed out how they were contradictory.
Team Heretics went up against Fnatic, Vitality, and Rogue and only lost the game to Vitality on the opening day of the split. It went 2-1 in the first week and is comfortably seated in second place in the standings. Interestingly, of these three games, the Player of the Game (POG) award was given to jungler Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski. In the second week, Heretics will be facing the following three teams:
G2 Esports
SK Gaming
Team BDS
