Boaster Reflects on Fnatic’s Mentality Heading Into the Lower Bracket

The third day of play in Valorant Champions 2022 began with Group D opener matches where DRX went up against FURIA and Fnatic (FNC) took on 100 Thieves (100T). The North American (NA) and EMEA representatives went toe-to-toe and it was a thriller from start to finish that stretched three games. In the end, 100T emerged victorious and pushed Fnatic down to the Elimination Match against FURIA. As a result of this victory, 100 Thieves will now face DRX in the Winners’ Bracket best-of-three (BO3) series.

AFK Gaming spoke to Fnatic’s in-game leader (IGL) Jake “Boaster” Howlett as he reflected on the lower bracket run that the team is currently tasked with.

100 Thieves started off the series on a high by winning Game 1, but Fnatic struck back in Game 2. In the decider, 100 Thieves held its own while Fnatic’s players made uncharacteristic mistakes handing a 2-1 victory to the NA team.

After the match had concluded, Boaster talked about the run Fnatic had at Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) 2022 Stage 1 Masters Reykjavik. When we asked him about the mentality of the team while staring at a lower bracket series against FURIA he recalled that Fnatic was knocked into the losers’ bracket by Ninjas in Pyjamas (NIP), a Latin American squad. Boaster added, “Admittedly, it was with two substitutes so the whole mentality of our team was a bit different then. However, we are the full roster [for] this event. There’s no grand excuse like that and I think FURIA [is] capable of knocking us out and we just got to make sure that we’re playing together and hitting our shots.”

Taking it round by round

Boaster also acknowledged that he was not hitting all the shots in the series against 100T. He assured that Fnatic would take the Valorant Champions 2022 tournament one game at a time. “I think we just got to take it round by round, game by game.” He also stated that getting to the playoffs bracket would give the team the opportunity to hit the pause button and reset.

Fnatic’s lower bracket run against FURIA is scheduled to take place on 5th September and the team that loses the series will be eliminated from Valorant Champions 2022. The team that wins the Losers’ match will play either DRX or 100T in the decider match to determine which team makes it out of Group D into the playoffs bracket.
