Ambessa Medarda: Who Is This New League of Legends Champion?

There is no denying Arcane's impact on League of Legends and the universe of Runeterra. Even those who do not know League of Legends and its rich lore have been ardent followers of the hit animated series on Netflix. Taking into account Arcane's success and its influence, Riot Games announced its next League of Legends champion.

This new champion, set to release sometime in 2024, will be the first character from the Arcane universe to be released in League of Legends. On 5th January, along with the short teaser for Arcane Season 2, Riot Games revealed that it will be releasing Ambessa Medarda, a Noxian warlord to the MOBA game.

Ambessa Medarda: Mel's Mom From Arcane, Is Coming to League of Legends

In a Dev Update video titled "Season 2024 Look Ahead: Champions, Modes, Arcane & More," League of Legends Executive Producer Jeremy “Brightmoon” Lee, Head of League Studio Andrei “Meddler” van Roon and other Riot developers (devs) talked about all things Season 2024 including new champions, a new mode, ranked changes, and anti-cheat among others.

One of the major updates that caught the attention of the players and fans was the teaser for Arcane Season 2 and also the introduction of Ambessa Medarda to Summoner's Rift.

In the Dev Update video, Meddler recalled that Arcane Season 2 would be releasing in November 2024 and said, "Everyone at Riot is really excited by the show, and we've been inspired to bring Arcane into the game more. We're excited to show a small preview of one of the things the League team's been working on."

Following this, Meddler confirmed that the first Arcane influence in League would be Ambessa Medarda. He added that she would be bring the Noxian flair to the game and would be true to her character in the show. The developer added, "She won't be for the faint of heart in-game. Don't let her large stature fool you, though. She brings both strength and speed, sidestepping attacks and surprising agility."

Who Is Ambessa Medarda in Arcane?

In Arcane, Ambessa Medarda is introduced as a powerful Noxian warlord and stateswoman. She is also the estranged mother of Mel. While she wanted both her son and daughter to be strong and embrace the warfront like she did, both of them chose a different path, choosing diplomacy over war.

Riot Games also confirmed that the conjecture of Arcane and League of Legends would not stop with the release of Ambessa Medarda. In fact, it stated that it is just the beginning as there is going to be an Arcane-inspired gameplay, a new VGU and new skins.
