Here’s how you can go prone in Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (MW2), the sequel to Modern Warfare 2019 and the 19th addition to the Call of Duty (CoD) series, was released on 28th October. The game brought forth impressive graphics, improved combat mechanisms, new game modes, and new maps for players to enjoy.

Modern Warfare 2 is in full swing now with millions of fans enjoying the game. Notably, players need to be aware of the different movements and gameplay features in MW2 alongside the weapons, equipment, and perks to excel at the game both in multiplayer and in the campaign. Prone is a type of stance in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. It allows you to shoot from an elusive position in the game.

Here’s all you need to know about prone and what it means in Modern Warfare 2.

Prone in Modern Warfare 2 explained

Simply explained in medical terms, prone refers to lying flat, especially when one is facing downwards. Likewise, in Modern Warfare 2, the prone position allows players to use their weapons with better accuracy. The logic is that while one is in the prone position, the mass and surface area behind the firing shoulder are maximized.

Usually, players prefer to be in the prone position while using long-range rifles or snipers. In such scenarios, players will have better control and command over their gun and its recoil, thus improving stability and accuracy. As a result, there is less weapon sway.

How to go prone in Modern Warfare 2?

The following are the default keybinds for prone in Modern Warfare 2:

  • Press and hold O button on PlayStation and B on Xbox controllers.

  • Press and hold the CTRL button on PC

  • Tap the crouch button on your respective devices again to get back up

Players should note that when in the prone position, they are vulnerable from behind since enemies can hit them while they are laying down looking elsewhere. Make sure to equip decoy grenades to avoid enemies tracking you and chasing you from your last fire position.

For instance, the Recon by Fire mission in MW2 requires players to go prone. Recon by Fire is the ninth mission featured in the game and Kyle "Gaz" Garrick is the playable character. The mission briefing reads, “With Laswell on overwatch, Price and Gaz infiltrate a cartel smuggling operation off the coast of Spain in search of enemy missiles.

At one point in the mission, you will have to go prone to avoid getting tracked by enemies. You will have to lie down next to Price, hide your weapon, and move as little as possible.
