BGMI was one such title which attracted the most viewership with lakhs of viewers tuning in to watch multiple tournaments.

The 2023 esports season in India has concluded with the most recent event being the Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series (BMPS) 2023. The 2023 season saw multiple esports teams compete in various esports titles like Valorant, Counter Strike Global Offensive (CS:GO), Brawl Stars, Pokemon Unite, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), Call of Duty Mobile (CODM) and many more. 

All of the data mentioned below is according to the Esports Charts. Although there were many esports tournaments organized for different titles, the top 5 most watched Indian tournaments were BGMI. The game was unbanned in May in 2023 and in just six months time the title attracted over lakhs of viewers.

List of most watched Indian tournaments of 2023

BGIS 2023 (233,610 peak viewers):

The Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS) 2023 was the first official tournament of BGMI in 2023 after the game was unbanned. It was also the first ever BGMI LAN tournament and also boasted a prize pool of INR 2 Crores. It was the first time a lower bracket format was introduced to give the eliminated teams a second chance to qualify for the Grand Finals LAN event.

India vs Korea Invitational (176,146 peak viewers):

The India vs Korea Invitational event was the first time Korean teams were invited to play BGMI against the Indian teams. The tournament was streamed in multiple languages including English, Hindi and Korean. The tournament was organized in a LAN format with live spectators at the venue. The event also had a prize pool of INR 1 Crore.

BGIS 2023 The Grind (167,746 peak viewers):

BGIS 2023 The Grind was the qualification event for the BGIS 2023 main event. Due to an increase in the number of teams, since the unban of the game, the event also saw an increase in the number of invited teams with 256 teams being invited to play the event. The top 32 teams from this tournament qualified for the main event.

BGMI IQOO Pro Series (167,438 peak viewers):

The BGMI IQOO Pro Series was the first tournament organized to relaunch the game after it was unbanned. The event had a massive prize pool of INR 1 Crore. The tournament was streamed only on Youtube and had 167,438 peak viewers tuning in to watch the event.

BMPS 2023 (161,823 peak viewers):

The recently concluded Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series (BMPS) 2023 event saw the fifth highest viewer count as fans tuned in to watch the event. The tournament had a LAN Grand Finals and was streamed on Loco and Youtube with the latter having the most viewers. The event also had a prize pool of INR 1 Crore.

Overall the 2023 season saw multiple tournaments being organized for most of the esports titles but BGMI attracted the most viewers across various platforms and languages. Fans can expect other titles to have significant growth in terms of viewership in 2024 as the Counter Strike scene is being revived in India and Valorant has also seen a significant growth with the recent Convergence 2023 event.
