A League of Legends icon or Summoner icon is a visual representation of a player’s profile and it appears in the in-game lobbies, loading screens, and the profile page. Simply said, these icons work like profile photos for your League of Legends account. They also appear next to other players’ names on the friend list and chat rooms. Interestingly, Riot Games keeps adding more and more Summoner icons to the game and the list keeps expanding every season. This way, players can choose a special avatar to represent themselves best in-game and capture their true essence.  

Here’s all you need to know about League of Legends icons and how you can get your hands on as many as you can.


How many icons are there in League of legends?

According to Fandom, there were 2438 Summoner icons as of 16th May 2021. Therefore, it is safe to say that there are more than 2500 Summoner icons in League of Legends currently. The icons usually denote champions, particular skins, and themes and are also released as part of special in-game events and designs, and also include a bunch of random things.

To check all the available League of Legends icons, you can do the following steps:

  • Log into your League of Legends account

  • Navigate to the ‘Collection’ tab next to Profile on the top menu bar

  • Once you are inside the Collection tab, click on Icons

  • Now, on the left, you will see how many Icons you own and which category they fall under (Ultimate, Mythic, Legendary, Epic, Rare, and Legacy)

  • You will also see a ‘Search’ bar and a drop menu on the left.

  • When you choose to see ‘All’ icons in the game, you will also be able to tick the ‘Show Unowned’ checkbox.

  • Now, you can scroll to see all the available icons in League of Legends.

How to get more Summoner icons in League of Legends?

Players can get more Summoner icons in League of Legends in different ways. The simplest way is to purchase them from the store using Riot Points (RP). Other ways to get new League of Legends icons are by completing certain achievements. For example, reaching a certain rank in Solo Queue will get you a new Summoner icon. 

Additionally, players can also get Summoner icons through special in-game events or promotions. In short, there is no one way to get Summoner icons. Players are also given new ones when they buy new skins. 

Some of the common ways to obtain Summoner icons are:

  • Opening hextech chests

  • Participating in events and completing tasks

  • Climbing in ranked and scoring split point

  • Purchasing them from the store

To change your Summoner icon in League of Legends, you can follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • Log into your League of Legends account

  • Click on the icon near your in-game name on the top right of the client, above the ‘Social’ tab.

  • You will see a new window called ‘Customize Identity’ pop up.

  • Here, you need to click on ‘Icons’

  • You will notice that all the icons in your inventory are arranged by the date you acquired them.

  • You can also sort the Summoner Icons by the set they belong to, esports teams, or tier.

  • Once you choose a new one and close the window, the new Summoner icon gets changed.

  • You don’t have to specifically save your changes as it updates automatically.
