The Tarkov Shooter Part 1 quest in Escape from Tarkov is an elimination-type task and is a part of a long questline given by trader Ivan Yegorovich Kharitonov also known as Jaeger. Elimination tasks are when the players are required to execute a certain number of characters in the game and are usually highly detailed. This particular Jaeger quest does not have any pre-requirements to take up and follows the Acquaintance quest. Finishing this quest leads you to The Tarkov Shooter Part 2 task.
Note that this task is a must to get your hands on the Kappa Secure Container in the game. Now that we have a basic outline of this elimination task, let us dive deeper into the specifics of the Tarkov Shooter Part 1 Quest.
The Tarkov Shooter Part 1 Guide
Once you take up the quest, Jaeger says the Sniper was recently looking for a reliable person who can be entrusted with a task. “He says the best way to test a person for his task is to check their skills with bolt-action rifles. He's a serious man, so I think he needs a fighter for something important. What do you think, can I recommend you? Try yourself in as the "Tarkov Shooter". if you pass all Sniper's tests, I’ll arrange you a contact with him,” Jaeger details.
As part of Sniper’s test, players will need to clear a series of tasks. The first task at hand tests your accuracy with iron sights from a medium distance (40 meters).
The objective of The Tarkov Shooter Part 1 quest is simple:
Eliminate 5 Scavs from over 40 meters away while using a bolt-action rifle with iron sights
There are six different versions of the bolt-action sniper rifle in Escape from Tarkov to choose between. They are as follows:
Lobaev Arms DVL-10 7.62x51
The Molot VPO-215 "Gornostay" .366 TKM bolt-action rifle
The Remington Model 700 7.62x51 bolt-action sniper rifle (M700)
The ORSIS T-5000M 7.62x51 bolt-action sniper rifle
The Mosin 7.62x54R bolt-action rifle
The SV-98 7.62x54R bolt-action sniper rifle
Note that only killing Scavs will count towards this quest and it does not include PMCs. You need to use a bolt-action rifle as mentioned without attaching any scopes or sights but the iron sights.
Some of the good maps to carry out the eliminations for this quest include Woods, Shoreline, and Customs since the sniper Scavs are easier to spot from a long distance. On the other hand, Factory might be a bad choice for this quest since there are not many locations for you to pull it off within a distance of 40 meters.
