G2 Esports, one of Europe's leading and most-successful League of Legends esports teams, posed a video titled "Farewell G2 Caps."
Along with this video, the organization also confirmed its roster for 2024 LEC season.
Here's all you need to know about G2 Esports' 2024 LEC roster.

G2 Esports is hands down one of the best and competitive teams in the League of Legends esports scene in the west. Currently participating in the LEC [League of Legends Europe, Middle East & Africa Championship], G2 Esports has a total of 12 domestic titles against its name. The League of Legends team also won the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) in 2019 and placed second in Worlds the same year.

Apart from the prowess it shows within the game, G2 Esports is also known for its community engagement. The social media team works just as hard as the players and management and the organization is one of the most entertaining brands in the esports world.

In such an eyebrow-raising move, G2 Esports posted a video featuring mid-laner and star player Rasmus "Caps" Borregaard Winther. The video, titled "Farewell G2 Caps" created buzz in the community during this heated League of Legend esports offseason.

G2 Esports confirmed its starting roster for LEC 2024 via a social media post, featuring a video where Caps directly addressed the fans. Upon first glance, a lot of fans were caught off guard and were led to believe that Caps was leaving the team.

Caps said in the video, "It has been an amazing journey and I really wanna just thank you guys so much for it. I know this is not gonna be an easy thing for me to say. It certainly isn’t for me at least. But... I just have to say it. I’m leaving. I’m leaving Berlin. I’m flying abroad; Taking my skill set somewhere else."

However, towards the end of the video, after being prompted by team manager Romain Bigeard, Caps clarified, "I’m going home for the holidays. The split is over. Worlds is over. And we need to go back for Winter Split. So see you then!"

The end card of the same video also noted that it is running it back with the same roster for LEC 2024. The players on G2 Esports are as follows:

  • Sergen "BrokenBlade" Çelik: Top

  • Martin "Yike" Sundelin: Jungle

  • Rasmus "Caps" Borregaard Winther: Mid

  • Steven "Hans Sama" Liv: Carry

  • Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle: Support

Worlds 2023 was a tough run for G2 Esports. While it started off its campaign right by winning against Dplus KIA and Weibo Gaming, the team lost two consecutive games to Gen.G and NRG Esports. After this, the team looked completely broken and without momentum and exited the tournament very early on after losing to BiliBili Gaming.
