A parrot is a rare, passive mob that can be tamed and is found in jungle biomes. They imitate the sounds of nearby monsters like their real life counterparts. A tamed parrot will perch on the player’s shoulder. Parrots also dance near a jukebox if a music disc is inside it. Here is all you need to know about Parrots in Minecraft and how to tame them.
Where do parrots spawn in Minecraft
Parrots do not spawn often in game; they have a 0.2% chance of spawning in jungle biomes:
Jungle
Bamboo Jungle
Sparse Jungle (Bedrock edition only)
Parrots can spawn in groups of two in jungles above logs, leaves or grass blocks.
How to tame a parrot in Minecraft
Parrots can be tamed using wheat seeds, melon seeds, pumpkin seeds, beetroot seeds or torchflower seeds (upcoming 1.20 update). There is a 1 in 10 chance to tame a parrot when you feed it any one of these seeds.
Once tamed, interacting with a parrot makes it sit down and stand up. A standing parrot will follow the player around. A tamed parrot will sometimes come to sit on a player’s shoulder or can also be made to perch by moving through the parrot.
Parrots on a shoulder always look in the same direction the player's head is looking. A parrot on a shoulder cannot take any damage but may get hurt as soon as it dismounts if the player is in lava. In the Bedrock edition, a parrot perched on the player will prevent it from using the nether portal. Parrots dance near a jukebox if a music disc is inside it, even if they are perched on the player’s shoulder.
Parrots in Minecraft come with the unique mechanic that lets them imitate the idle sounds of nearby hostile and certain neutral mobs (except for guardians and elder guardians) within 20 cubical blocks. They are also occasionally known to imitate sounds of mobs not currently present in the area.
There is currently no known way of breeding parrots in Minecraft.
