Elder Guardians are a variant of the guardian, an aquatic, hostile mob. This large mob is gray with spikes coming out of its body and a single large eye. They are generally found in monuments and will attack players using lasers or their spikes. They also tend to chase players down who go out of sight. They drop prismarine shards but may also drop raw or cooked cod (if killed by fire). Here is how to deal with Elder Guardian in Minecraft.
Where do Elder Guardians spawn in Minecraft
Elder Guardians spawn naturally during the generation of each ocean monument: one in the top room of the monument and the other two in each wing section. They only spawn once and if killed will not spawn again. You can obtain a map to the ocean monument from cartographer villagers (which usually costs 12-13 emeralds and a compass). They can be differentiated from other villagers by their gold monocles.
How to deal with Elder Guardians in Minecraft
Elder Guardians will attack players using a laser (on the two second cooldown) or attack using the thorns on their bodies. Apart from players, Guardians will also attack other mobs in the game. They will attack squids, glow squids, axolotls, and other underwater mobs. You can avoid fighting them if you bring along some invisibility potions. If you want to pick a fight with them make sure you have the following before heading to ocean monuments:
A diamond sword/trident
A pickaxe
Water breathing potions
Milk
Bucket of Axolotls
Depth strider boots for quick water movement and aqua affinity helmets for deep-sea sight are also great to bring along. You can fight an elder guardian with melee weapons or by throwing a trident at it. Note that if a guardian attacks you, it will give you mining fatigue, making it impossible to mine anything underwater for five minutes. Listed below is how much ranged damage they do:
Easy: 5 Hearts
Normal: 8 Hearts
Hard: 12 Hearts
Listed below is how much damage their spikes do:
Easy: 2
Normal: 2
Hard: 3
You can use a bucket of Axolotl to unleash an axolotl army on them to assist you in battle.
When killed, Guardians will drop prismarine shards. They also have a chance of dropping raw cod or cooked cod if killed by fire (only in Java edition), 1 wet sponge, tide armor trim smithing templates and 10 experience orbs.
