Players who use Discord for communication with friends and their teammates while playing League of Legends and Valorant have been experiencing a rather annoying problem which causes Discord to completely freeze with the comms cut out for a few seconds. While some players had to manually restart the application for it to work properly, the problem seems to resolve by itself within a few seconds.
Possible fixes to stop Discord freezing after closing the League client
For League of Legends, in particular, players can test out this possible fix:
Open the League of Legends client and navigate to the client settings in the top right corner.
You will land on the Client/General settings tab.
You should be able to see a drop-down menu titled “Close Client During Game.”
By default, this setting will be on “As Needed.”
Click on the drop-down options and change to “Never.”
This solution seems to work for the majority of players, however, there have been a few outliers in this case.
Fixing Discord freezing after League of Legends or Valorant through Discord settings
This next possible fix should help players fix the Discord freezing issue after a game of League of Legends as well as Valorant. If the fix mentioned above is not working, players can try changing some settings on Discord to avoid the freezing.
Here’s how to do it:
Open Discord and log into your account.
Click on User Settings on the bottom left side of the application where you usually see your name and your tag.
As you land on the settings page, look out for “App Settings” on the left side.
Click on Voice and Video settings.
Scroll down to the bottom of the Voice and Video settings page.
The last setting will be “Debug Logging” and by default, the option will be enabled for the users.
Disable Debug Logging.
This will cause Discord to restart.
Disabling this option would mean that Discord developers will not easily be able to track bugs on the application and turning it off is completely safe and it will not delete any information or messages shared by the user.
Users can also try turning off any overlays including Discord’s as well as third-party applications like Mobalytics and Blitz. Notably, Discord developers also suggested another option to fix the Discord freezing issue which was shared on Reddit by user SuperSaiyanUchiha, “So Discord gave me an answer of doing a clean install of Discord which is what I did but they did tell me to install the PTB [Public Test Build] Version of Discord and try it. I got into a call and tested swapping tabs quickly in borderless window and it seemed like it worked but more testing over multiple games will probably be what I need to do.”
