Allays are a fairly recent addition to Minecraft, added in update 1.19 after winning the 2021 Minecraft Mob Vote. Allays are massive mobs which can be tamed and bred. These cute, luminous creatures fly around bringing the player objects it finds, especially those around any note block it hears repeatedly playing. You can give an object to an allay and it will bring you more of that object. Here is everything you need to know and how to breed allays in Minecraft.
Where to find Allays in Minecraft
Allays are rare in Minecraft, spawning only in two locations in the game; Pillager Outposts and Woodland Mansion. You’ll find Pillager Outposts in most biomes while Woodland Mansions are rarer, spawning only in dark forests. You can get an allay to follow you by putting a lead on it or by giving it an item to search for. This will make them follow you and you can lead them to safety.
Once you give an allay an item, it will go around collecting any dropped items that are copies of what it is holding. Once you give it an item, an allay will follow you anywhere if you stay within 64 blocks of it. If you use a note block near it, the allay will spend 30 seconds circling around the note block instead.
How to tame and breed allays in Minecraft
Allays can be tamed by giving them cake, which will trigger a hearts animation, indicating they are now tamed. When an allay hears a jukebox playing, it performs a dance animation. If the jukebox stops playing, or if the allay gets too far away from the jukebox, it stops dancing.
So to breed an allay you’ll need Amethyst shards, a jukebox and a music disc. Once you get an allay dancing, you can give it an amethyst shard to make it breed.
You only need to do this with one allay and it will create a copy of itself. Once you breed an allay, you'll need to wait at least five minutes before either the parent or new allay can duplicate itself.
