Blizzard Entertainment has changed up the way they do Overwatch with Overwatch 2 seasons. Each Season of Overwatch 2 has new features, a new battle pass and a new hero or map. Previously, in Overwatch 1, only competitive seasons followed the season format while new skins and content was tied to events like the Chinese New Year, Christmas, etc. Now content is more serialized thanks to the Overwatch 2 season format. Here is all you need to know about the new format and how long is an Overwatch 2 season.
How long are Overwatch 2 Seasons?
Overwatch 2 seasons are nine weeks long, pretty standard for seasons of free-to-play games where seasons typically last for 2-3 months. Each season comes with a free and premium battle pass which costs players 1000 Overwatch coins. The cost in real money varies according to region, but it costs approximately $10.
Some seasons may also include special events. The first season featured an upgraded Junkenstein’s Revenge: Wrath of the Bride event, Overwatch 2‘s first Halloween event. However, Blizzard hasn’t said whether each season will receive its own event, but there will at least be a few coming each year.
What will a new Overwatch 2 season include?
An Overwatch 2 season comes along with a free and premium battle pass with 80+ tiers of unlockable content including skins, emotes, play of the game animations, icons and more. Every alternate season will have a new hero release (even-numbered seasons) with odd-numbered seasons featuring a new map. Each new hero is available to unlock at tier 55 in the battle pass. However, if you buy the premium battle pass, you can unlock the new hero immediately.
For Overwatch 2 Season 4, Lifeweaver is the new support hero addition to the game. Winston, Lifeweaver, Ashe and Doomfist have Legendary skins in this season’s pass while Sigma is getting a customizable Mythic skin at level 80. After level 80, you can earn a new set of Player Titles. Overwatch 2 Season 4 was released on 11th April 2023 for all platforms.
