Double Kills challenges are very common in MW2 when players grind for weapons and camos.
There were several reports of double kills not getting counted in the game.
Here’s how to fix this issue.

The concept of double kills in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) is as straightforward as the name suggests. Double kills in Modern Warfare 2 can be achieved when players get two kills consecutively within three seconds of each other. Even if the second kill that you get is a fraction of a second too late, it will not count as a double kill. Once you get the second kill in that perfect time frame, you will be rewarded with 110 XP and a double kill notification will flash on the screen.

Modern Warfare 2 players know the importance of these well-timed double kills as they are needed to complete weapon camo challenges in the game. For example, for the M4 Assault Rifle, one of the camo challenges is to get 10 double kills with the M4.

However, for quite some time now, Modern Warfare 2 players have been reporting an issue with the double kills not registering in-game. Here’s all we know about why double kills have not been registering for some players and how to fix this issue.

How to fix double kills not counting in MW2

Time and again, Modern Warfare 2 players run into the issue where double kills do not count in their tracked progress bars for specific MW2 weapons and their respective challenges. However, there is no reason to be worried about this issue since the fix is rather simple. Also, it is important to note that your progress is safe and it is just that the progress does not reflect properly. Here’s how you fix the double kills bug in MW2.

On the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit, one user posted, “Double kills challenge is bugged on many guns, doesn't count.” Replying to this, another Redditor said, “They are bugged in the menu but they are still counting. My doubles never moved from 0 yesterday on the Lachman 556 but after getting 10 the camo [was] still unlocked. It's an annoying bug, but just keep grinding away because it is still counting your progress.

Since this double kill count problem is mainly related to a visual glitch, the best thing to do is to simply restart Modern Warfare 2 and load right back in. This should fix the issue easily. However, this is not a guaranteed fix since a handful of players have reported that the issue continued despite restarting the game.

In any case, you can keep close tabs on the official Trello board of Infinity Ward where the developers jot down issues that are currently affecting the game and their statuses.

But on the off chance that your double kills not counting is unrelated to the game’s side of things, you may want to revisit how double kills work in the game. Here are some useful tips to keep in mind:

  • AI [Artificial Intelligence] kills in Invasion and Ground War game modes do not count as double kills.

  • Players must get the second kill within three seconds of the first one.

  • If a camo challenge mandates you to use a specific gun, your double kill must be with it otherwise the double kills do not count.

  • The double kills are not counted if the two kills are made with different guns.

  • The Double Kill notification must appear on the screen for it to count.
