Highlights
Arena mode is the latest limited-time mode (LTM) to join League of Legends and it was rolled out as part of the 2023 Summer Event: Soul Fighter.
It is a straightforward, fun, and competitive gameplay experience.
However, there are many questions revolving around the features of this game mode, its future, and other details. Riot Games has given honest answers to the players regarding these FAQs.

Riot Games took inspiration from Teamfight Tactics (TFT) and combined some of its features with the classic elements of League of Legends to come up with a brand new limited time mode (LTM) called the Arena mode or the 2v2v2v2 mode. It was released on 20th July along with the big 2023 Summer Event: Soul Fighter. Since the event went live on the servers, players have been religiously playing and spamming this game mode.

While it is super fun to play with a dedicated ranked ladder, there are way too many questions about the future of Arena mode, what it currently offers to the players, and what it aims to be in the future.

In a recent blog post, Riot Games developers Daniel “Riot Maxw3ll” Emmons, Modes design lead, and Eduardo “Riot Cadmus” Cortejoso, Modes product lead, answered some of the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) about Arena mode, including whether it will support the classic systems of Eternals, Masteries, and Challenges.

Here's what Riot Games had to say about these systems.

Riot Games Answers FAQs about Arena Mode

Arena mode is the new game mode in League of Legends where four teams of two players each fight one another in rotating combat rounds. After each round of combat, players will power up their champions with unique Augments until only one team is left standing. Combat takes place on four different battlefields which vary in size, terrain density, and theme. There are also special appearances in the form of cameos by champions in the Soul Fighter universe.

One of the most frequently asked questions (FAQ) about this mode is whether Challenges, Eternals or Mastery will be getting support.

Firstly, to answer this question, let us revisit all these systems individually:

Challenges: The Challenges system in League of Legends is a fun way to track progress through unique challenges on the Summoner’s Rift. This new system was introduced to the game last year with LoL Patch 12.9. Players can hit different ranks ranging from Bronze to Challenger for every one of these challenges. Notably, it allows players to showcase their achievements in the game lobby and on the loading screen.

Eternals: Eternals are a premium champion mastery system in League of Legends designed to showcase personal achievements on particular champions. The Eternals track and display champion-specific stats in-game, which allows players to gloat over their enemies while showing off their skills.

Mastery: The mastery system in League of Legends is also designed to recognize a player's respective investment in a champion and it uses skill-based progression to measure advancement. This is the flare that you see players spamming in-game when they main a particular champion.

Arena Mode Cameos by Soul Fighter Champions

Talking about these systems in Arena mode, Riot Games said these features are on the list of things it would like to add to Arena mode in the future. However, it acknowledged that these were not ready in time for the initial release of the game mode. "Mastery progression is realistically the feature we’ll be adding first, with Challenges and Eternals likely requiring more development time down the road," noted the developers.

So, to put things into perspective: Arena mode does not currently support Eternals, Challenges or Masteries.
