Apex Legends makes use of Easy Anti-Cheat, which is a popular solution used in titles like Rust, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.
While the anti-cheat is functional, there are still instances of cheaters and Respawn is working towards improving player experience.
Players have called for a kernel-level anti-cheat similar to Valorant, that shuts down lobbies whenever a cheater is detected.

If you are just shifting from Warzone, you may have been wondering. ‘does Apex Legends have an anti-cheat’ and while the game does have an anti-cheat, here are some things that you need to know. The anti-cheat used by Apex Legends is Easy Anti-Cheat, a popular tool used in titles like Rust, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Fortnite, and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. Despite being an industry-standard anti-cheat, the game does suffer from cheaters and DDOS attacks. The community has called for stricter anti-cheat measures as higher ranks like Master and Predator are affected by cheaters, and Respawn Entertainment is currently working towards fixing this problem.

Is Apex Legends’ anti-cheat good?

Apex Legends uses Easy Anti-cheat, which is a popular service used by triple-A studios, but it is far from perfect. Tuning into any Apex Legends stream in Season 9 was a complete nightmare for viewers with all high-ranking players running into cheaters very frequently. The situation was so bad that #SaveApexRanked was trending on Twitter globally at one point and pro players called out Respawn for not addressing the issue.

As a player, you are unlikely to run into cheaters except at the higher tiers of play. Respawn is working towards fixing the cheater problem and it has promised updates to the anti-cheat in the near future. More than the cheater problem, DDOSing is an issue that got out of hand last season but Respawn has already deployed multiple fixes to address the issue and things seem stable so far.

Players have called for a Valorant-style anti-cheat

While there is a lot of talk about “kernel-level” anti-cheats, it is important to understand that most anti-cheats used in modern games are kernel-level. What Valorant does differently is that the anti-cheat boots with your system and if you turn it off, a full system reboot is necessary to play the game. Players have found the anti-cheat to be highly effective and want Apex Legends to implement something similar.

Games in Valorant are shut down whenever a cheater is detected, and a system similar to that would be very welcomed. It is impossible for players to know when they run into a cheater in Apex Legends until they actually face off. Considering the fact that a cheater is going up against an entire lobby, cheaters die a lot in battle royales, especially if they go up against good players. There are instances of players from multiple squads willing to team up whenever they realize there is a cheater in the lobby. By implementing a system similar to Valorant, the anti-cheat can cancel a game and immediately save players’ time and ranked points.

While anti-cheat improvements are in the works for Apex Legends, there is no known timeline for when players can expect an update. But with the influx of new players in the game due to Warzone content creators and players shifting to Apex, Respawn will need to tighten the noose on cheaters very soon.
