TSM FTX’s Phillip ‘ImperialHal’ Dosen is one of the best in-game leaders in the world and one of the biggest Apex Legends streamers. Following the release of Season 10, Hal feels that the game is in a “one-dimensional state” and he wishes the new content creators and players would know about it. There has been a huge influx of players in Apex Legends following the launch of Season 10 as well as some of the biggest Twitch streamers including TimTheTatman and NICKMERCS moving to the game from Warzone. While a lot of the ex-Warzone content creators are happy with the game, Hal does not seem pleased with the current meta.
Why Apex Legends pros are unhappy with Season 10
The current meta revolves around Seer, the game’s newest legend. Bloodhound, the game’s previous tracker character, has access to a tactical ability that allows players to scan areas within a limited radius and spot enemies. Seer’s tactical ability offers a very similar mechanic but it not only spots enemies, but also stuns them, deals 10 damage, cancels revives and healing, and reveals their shield and health bars. Many players see this as a direct power creep and Respawn Entertainment has acknowledged the issue and will be deploying nerfs soon.
Mac "Albralelie" Beckwith who is also a part of TSM FTX as a content creator and plays competitively part-time with Cloud9, talked about how oppressive Seer is in the current meta. He revealed that Seer might be the first character to be banned in tournaments because of how overtuned he is.
Mac laid out some gameplay examples talking about situations where Seer can feel oppressive. He said, “Play edge? Can't heal if you take any damage. Play zone? Enjoy having no healing economy since you're just getting q spammed by the entire lobby. Oh, one of you went down? Every other Seer just saw that and is now going to collectively Q you repeatedly, more than likely killing your knocked player.”
Respawn gameplay engineer, Travis Nordin said during a Reddit AMA, “Seer has launched strong, which was the hope. He's also brought a lot of new gameplay elements to the game which has driven a lot of discussion with players, which is great to see. With that being said (Seer) is probably a bit too strong at the moment and will (receive) some balance updates in an upcoming patch."
In addition to Seer, the weapon meta may also require changes but Respawn confirmed in its AMA that it will be monitoring the gun balance further before making any changes. Changes to weapons are unlikely to show up in the next Apex Legends patch.
