Here’s everything you need to know about all the game modes coming your way in MW2 Season 2.

Call of Duty (COD) players are delighted with February bringing forth Season 2 of Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) with headlining changes including new game modes, new maps, weapons, and Operators. The developers announced that the Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 update is scheduled for 15th February 2023. In its early patch notes, the Call of Duty team revealed the road map laid out for the game. The developers confirmed that Gun Game, Grind, Drop Zone, All or Nothing, and One in the Chamber game modes will be making their way into Modern Warfare 2 in Season 2, alongside Hardcore and Ranked Play.

Here’s everything you need to know about the fan-favorite modes Gun Game and Infected.

Gun Game in Modern Warfare 2

Gun Game is a classic Call of Duty party game where players enter a free-for-all match where they get a new, unique weapon for each kill. The first player to get a kill with all the weapons, usually ending with a crossbow or ballistic knife, wins the game. The blog post described, “Gun Game is a competition of overall gun skill. Every ranged elimination awards a different weapon, while melee eliminations put your opponent one weapon back on the 18-weapon rotation. Show off your prowess with a variety of weapon categories, then finish the job with a Throwing Knife to win.

The Gun Game mode matches are extremely short and chaotic since it only takes about 18-24 kills to finish the game. This mode made its entry into the Call of Duty franchise in Black Ops and has remained untouched over the course of many years, making it an instant classic.

Infected game mode in MW2

Infected made its way into the COD franchise through Modern Warfare 3 and is extremely fun to play. It was originally introduced as “Sickness” as part of an April Fool's day joke and several iterations of the mode have been introduced over the years.

In Infected, Operators must avoid the chosen Infected player at all costs. “Every survivor eliminated joins the Infected team until none remain or until the five-minute time period elapses. Jump into this game mode with friends or make some of your own in the 18-person lobby… Just don’t get too attached to those who may wind up joining the infected ranks!” said the blog post.

The Infected mode starts with all players as survivors. On the top left of the screen, you will see a timer that begins at nine seconds to kick off the game. When the timer runs out, one player is randomly chosen as the first infected player. All others are called ‘Survivors’ and they need to hide from the Infected player or kill them. The Survivors get a random weapon and are awarded 50 points every time a Survivor is infected. The round ends when either the last Survivor is killed/infected, or time runs out, and a new round will start.

Both Infected and Gun Game, and Grind modes will arrive in Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 on day one, that is, 15th February. Meanwhile, the other modes of Drop Zone, All or Nothing, and One in the Chamber will be released via the mid-season update.
