Is Infected Coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 did not launch with the Infected game mode but the devs have finally confirmed that the fan-favorite mode will return to the franchise. In addition to Resurgence returning to Warzone 2.0, we will also be getting Infected as part of the Season 2 update. Here is everything you need to know about the game mode.
How the Infected mode works in Call of Duty
Infected was originally introduced as “Sickness” as part of an April Fool's day joke. It is a custom game mode introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 back in 2009 and several iterations of the mode have been introduced over the years.
The game starts with all players being survivors. In the upper left-hand corner of the screen, there is a timer that starts with nine seconds that counts down and kicks off the game. When the timer runs out, one player is randomly chosen to be the first infected. The remaining personnel are the non-infected players, hence the name "Survivors". These surviving players must hide from and/or kill the Infected and the last team standing ends up being the victor.
The Survivors spawn with a random weapon usually and must survive by killing the Infected and/or hiding. 50 points are given to Survivors every time a Survivor is infected. The round ends when either the last Survivor is killed/infected, or time runs out, and a new round will start.
Any place where players are difficult to knife by normal circumstances is a 'death zone.' A zone where a player (including the Infected themselves) will automatically die and join the Infected (if not already). This originally also applied to Private Matches, but community outrage led to this being reversed in Private Matches.
The game mode has seen several iterations over the years and we can expect something unique to be added to Modern Warfare 2’s iteration of the game mode when it launches on 15th February as part of Season 2.
