Skem Reveals How BOOM Esports’ In-Game Dynamics Work

BOOM Esports swept a stacked Team Secret lineup and The International 10 (TI10) champions Team Spirit on day four of the Gamers Galaxy: Dota 2 Invitational Series Dubai 2022 to secure a berth in the lower bracket final. The spectacular drafting and execution skills of BOOM Esports have been drawing the attention of fans for the duration of this event, and team captain Rolen Andrei Gabriel "skem" Ong provided details regarding how the team functions in a post-match winner’s interview. Although skem is the captain, he said it is a shared role since other players are significant contributors to game decisions.

However, when it comes to the draft, skem described coach Chai "Mushi" Yee Fung as being the ultimate decision-maker.

Skem describes how BOOM Esports drafts and makes decisions in-game

As the winners of Tour 1 in the Southeast Asia (SEA) Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2021-22, BOOM Esports carried this form into the Gamers Galaxy 2022 competition. With a top seed in the group stage and now a guaranteed third place, the team has shown great understanding and skillful execution in their games.

Skem explained that he desired to be a captain for a very long time, but when in-game it was Skem, Timothy John "Tims" Randrup, and Erin Jasper "Yopaj" Ferrer collectively make decisions.

"It was already a long time ago that I wanted to be a position five/captain but for this team, we really don't have a real captain. Just in-game, me and Tims call on early and mid, and maybe the cores later on. I, Tims, Japoy control the early and mid shot calls. Especially when we are winning early, Japoy calls."

Skem noted that while the players work together in a game, most of the drafting responsibility rests with their coach Mushi. While the players are asked about their hero choices, it is that Mushi makes the final call. “And Mushi does the draft. Mushi asks us about what heroes but he is still the last person to choose what we gonna play,” skem said.

The team has drafted comprehensively so far, emphasizing lanes that are strong and heroes that players are comfortable with. These drafts have been executed to perfection with through individual and gameplay excellence.

In the lower bracket final, BOOM Esports will now face Nigma Galaxy, hoping to reach the grand finals. Skem asked the fans to keep supporting them, emphasizing that they were still learning.

The winner of BOOM Esports vs Nigma Galaxy will go on to face Tundra Esports in the grand final of the Gamers Galaxy: Dota 2 Invitational Series Dubai 2022. The winner takes home $109,013 USD in prize money.
