MoonMeander Comments on Fata’s Addition to Quincy Crew

While Quincy Crew has only played two series in the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) 2021-22 Tour 3 thus far, the three roster changes it underwent recently have already started to make a strong impact. Among these two wins, one was a dominant victory over TSM, the runners up of the Stockholm Major 2022. During a recent post-match winner's interview, TSM captain David "MoonMeander" Tan Boon Yang stressed that Adrian "Fata" Trinks's addition to Quincy Crew has given the team an enormous boost. MoonMeander believes in the idea that captains in Dota 2 should be support players, and as such, Fata, who plays position five, will be able to assist Quincy Crew much better than the past captain.

MoonMeander feels Fata is a “huge upgrade” for Quincy Crew

TSM's MoonMeander was asked what he thought went wrong in previous week's 2-0 loss to Quincy Crew after TSM's win over 5RATFORCESTAFF. Despite MoonMeander's comment that they approached the series incorrectly, he also mentioned Fata's qualities as a natural captain make him a valuable asset to Quincy Crew.

“I think Fata was a huge upgrade for them because they actually really needed a captain. A captain is very important for a team and I think, no disrespect to KheZu, I strongly believe that a captain should come from a support role to make the game easier.”

Maurice "KheZu" Gutman, who plays position three, was the captain of Quincy Crew in the previous season. This squad produced excellent results in Tour 1 but was unable to qualify for the Stockholm Major in Tour 2 as the team fell short in the tiebreakers with Evil Geniuses and TSM. Following that, three players, including KheZu, parted ways with the team.

While KheZu was the captain of Quincy Crew, it was one of his only times leading a top-tier Dota 2 team. He has a lot of experience and is recognized for being a highly strategic player but has not been the captain of many teams. Meanwhile, Fata - his current replacement - brings a lot more experience as a team captain, having led Alliance and Tundra in the past.

In addition to Quincy Crew's acquisition of Fata for this season, Evil Geniuses, another top-performing North American (NA) team, added Tal "Fly" Aizik to their roster, expressing the need for a natural captain to guide the team.

Two of the top NA teams - Quincy Crew and Evil Geniuses - appear to have invested in established leaders with the goal of qualifying for The International 11 (TI11). On the other hand, TSM, a strong competitor to these two, will be sitting rather relaxed with a TI11 direct invite virtually guaranteed after finishing second at the Stockholm Major.
