The prestigious event held recently reportedly showcased the remarkable contributions of players and teams, with a special focus on the Asian Games 2022 Dota 2 team, players Wang "Ame" Chunyu and Lu "Somnus" Yao, and also LGD Gaming.

The Weibo Awards served as a platform to recognize and celebrate the achievements of esports professionals and teams.

According to CN Dota In a Nutshell, a renowned Chinese Dota 2 Twitter page, Weibo Awards honored many pros and teams in the Dota 2 Chinese scene. 

China's Asian Games 2022 Dota 2 team, which won the tournament, reportedly received the ‘Annual Esports Contribution Award’. This award recognizes the team’s exceptional impact on the esports landscape, highlighting its role in shaping and advancing the industry. The Asian Games 2022 Dota 2 team boasted an impressive roster. It included the following players: 

  • Wang "Ame" Chunyu

  • Lu "Somnus" Yao

  • Yang "Chalice" Shenyi

  • Zhao "XinQ" Zixing

  • Yu "皮球" Yajun

  •  Xiong "Pyw" Jiahan (Substitute)

  • Zhang "LaNm" Zhicheng (Coach)

This triumph comes as no surprise given its stellar performance at the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, where it defeated Mongolia in the final to secure the gold medal.


Weibo Awards for Esports 2023: Ame Wins the Standout Player Award

Ame, a standout player in the Dota 2 community, was reportedly honored with the ‘Notable Athlete of the Year’ award. This recognition is a testament to Ame's skill, dedication, and impact in Dota 2 esports. 

Notably, Ame was previously honored by his local fire department for his remarkable contribution to the Asian Games-winning Dota 2 team. As a key figure in the gaming world, Ame's achievements continue to inspire aspiring players and enthusiasts alike.

Ame, who played the carry position for Team China in the Asian Games 2022, secured a thrilling 2-1 victory against Team Mongolia in the grand finals, clinching the gold medal for his country. He can be seen posing during the Annual Weibo Awards 2023.


Somnus Wins Esports Player of the Year Award

At the Weibo Awards Ceremony 2023, Somnus, another luminary in the Dota 2 scene, won the ‘Popular Esports Player of the Year’ award. This title underscores Somnus' wide appeal and popularity among fans. Known for his exemplary gameplay and sportsmanship, Somnus last played for Azure Ray at The International 2023, where the team managed to secure a fourth-place finish. 

Interestingly, Nvidia recently announced a special edition RTX 4090 graphics card in honor of Somnus.

LGD Gaming wins Outstanding Team of the Year Award

The spotlight also shone on LGD Gaming as the team was honored with the ‘Outstanding Esports Team of the Year’ award. This recognition reflects LGD's consistent excellence, teamwork, and dominance. This award follows its strong performance at The International 2023, where it secured a commendable third place.
