Bzm’s Exam Delayed DPC WEU 2023 Tour 1 Tiebreaker

The tiebreaker for third to fifth place in the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Western Europe (WEU) 2023 Tour 1: Division I proved to be a very interesting affair on its first day. In the best-of-one tiebreaker, Tundra Esports, OG, and Entity competed against one another and after two rounds did not reach a conclusion because each team won one game. This unprecedented outcome had already prompted most players and the audience to stay up past midnight in their respective locations, but the tiebreaker interestingly got postponed to the next day due to OG midlaner Bozhidar "bzm" Bogdanov's exam in a few hours. Bzm's former teammate Ammar "ATF" Al-Assaf revealed this to the public on Janne "Gorgc" Stefanovski's Twitch livestream.

In the second round of the tiebreaker, OG managed to defeat Tundra in a dramatic turnaround. As a result, the tiebreaker returned to square one with another round of three games needed.

However, that tiebreaker had already been running for around eight hours, and ATF confirmed the postponement via Gorgc's livestream after a conversation with OG's carry Artem "Yuragi" Golubiev (also known as "spAce"). “Bzm has an exam in four hours. It’s actually true,” ATF said.

“It’s actually true bzm has an exam in four hours. That's hilarious. It’s not tonight, guys. They are playing tomorrow. We got inside info from the players,” Gorgc responded with a slight chuckle.

The unprecedented nature of the tiebreaker getting extended to such an extent along with bzm’s exam likely played a role in it being postponed to the second day.

How did the tiebreaker go?

Tundra defeated OG comprehensively both times to begin the tiebreaker. Entity won a long game against Tundra in the first round and then dominated the game in the second round.

OG was able to remain resilient and demonstrate stable performances in the third and final games of the two rounds, bringing the final score for all three teams to one victory and one defeat.

Usually, such ties are broken in the first round, with one team proving to be far superior to the rest, or by the second at the least, but it's unusual to see them go to another set.

Tundra, OG, and Entity are competing for a slot in the Lima Major 2023. The loser will be eliminated, while the remaining two will advance to the Major as the third and fourth seeds depending on the tiebreaker results.
