It was sheer ruthlessness that powered BOOM Esports to victory against Team SMG in the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Southeast Asia (SEA) 2021-22 Tour 1: Division 1. The team scored a total of 100 kills in this 2-0 series victory. The two games featured combat-heavy drafts from both sides, so teamfights were expected to be quite frequent, and BOOM Esports emerged as the winner most of the time. Erin Jasper "Yopaj" Ferrer, BOOM Esports' midlaner, was once again a delight to watch in the midlane, finishing both games with KDAs of 16-1-18 and 19-3-22 respectively.

BOOM Esports vs Team SMG: Match Recap and Highlights

Recap

In game 1, both teams managed a few kills in the first few minutes, but the real show began during the teamfights. Eventually, BOOM Esports started to gain ground as the team came out in positive numbers. Team SMG lost many more bodies when the team lost only one or two heroes. The lead kept growing and with Yopaj shining on his mid Ember Spirit, BOOM Esports claimed victory in 32 minutes.

Game 2 saw BOOM Esports flex their draft until the very end, eventually going for a position four Tidehunter and an offlane Outworld Destroyer. With its lineup, Team SMG tried to play quickly, but BOOM Esports countered their moves perfectly, finding the right kills in every move. Due to the lack of crowd control on Team SMG, whenever MidOne's Monkey King used Wukong's Command, the enemy heroes simply walked away from the arena. Team SMG tried time and again to win a teamfight but never succeeded, losing the game in 40 minutes.

Highlights

Here are some highlights of the series.

BOOM Esports is showing dominance in the DPC SEA league, taking down one opponent after another. This is the team’s third series in the league. There were initial questions about how Justine Ryan Evangelista "Tino" Grimaldo would do, but the team's final member has proven to be just as strong as the others, delivering some robust carry performances.

While Team SMG has looked good so far, its play has become rather one-dimensional through its constant reliance on fast placed strategies. The team has lost two series and won two with the losses coming against the undefeated teams of T1 and BOOM Esports.

In the post-match winner's interview, BOOM Esports' Rolen Andrei Gabriel "skem" Ong noted how Team SMG is a good team, and even though BOOM Esports had only won one scrim against them, they came into this series prepared for Team SMG's fast-paced strategy.

It will be interesting to see how these two teams perform in their next series. BOOM Esports will face Motivate.Trust Gaming on 18th Dec 2021 while Team SMG plays Execration on 5th Jan 2022.
