Heen- The Secret Behind Team Secret’s Success?
More often than not, players of a team are showered with all the appreciation and love for winning a title. Rightfully, they are the ones who deserve to be in the limelight, as they come out and deliver their best in real pressure situations. But on the other hand, the people who prepare these individuals mentally and mechanically do not get the desired credit for all the effort they put in. Coaches and other support staff usually become the second fiddle and in order to provide these people with deserving recognition, award ceremonies step in to bridge the gap.
The prelude of the fifth edition of Esports Awards 2020 happened yesterday as few of the winners were announced. In a very proud moment for any Dota 2 fan, The Best Esports Coach Of The Year Award went to Team Secret’s coach, Heen, following the team’s recent winning spree. A unanimous decision by a distinguished panel of judges plus a high number of votes secured the win for Heen as he defeated coaches from CS:GO, Overwatch League, LoL, Rainbow Six Siege, and Rocket League.
Heen was nominated into this final group of coaches as Team Secret played flawless and dominant Dota 2 continuously. They were able to make a record of winning eight tournaments in a row, with clean sweeping the grand finals of each one of them. Their win-loss record in 100 matches had surpassed that of any previous team and taking even a game off them was becoming an arduous task for any top tier team also. Unfortunately for them, their streak was broken was ESL One Germany 2020 but Team Secret’s five-month-long winning streak goes down in the history as the greatest of all time.
Heen has not only been the coach of this record-breaking team but has also coached Team Liquid from 2016-18. In this period, the team was able to win the coveted The International 2017.
