Meet New Dota 2 Hero Marci: Abilities, Talent Tree, and Lore Explained
Marci, who appeared in DOTA: Dragon's Blood, has made her way to the game. On 29th Oct 2021, Valve released the latest 7.30e update, along with the eagerly anticipated 122nd Dota 2 hero, Marci. As an all-around melee Strength hero on paper, she has the skillset and potential to be versatile and is capable of playing multiple roles. The first two spells grant her tremendous mobility and lockdown, while the other two let her go up against enemies head-on. We explore Marci's abilities, her Talent Tree, and also her exciting lore in the following look.
Marci Dota 2: All that you need to know
Marci’s abilities
Dispose
Ever watched Brock Lesnar's Suplex in the WWE? If so, then watching Marci destroy her enemies and allies with Dispose is surely going to fulfil that notion. By lifting an enemy or allied hero and hurling it behind her, Marci stuns and inflicts damage to the lifted enemy as well as to the area impacted.
Rebound
With Rebound, Marci showcases her raw power yet again. She jumps off a targeted unit and lands at a location where she deals damage and slows movement speed. This is a vector targeted spell.
Sidekick
As simple as it gets, Sidekick provides Marci or another allied hero with attack damage and lifesteal.
Unleash
Unleash, Marci’s Ultimate, is quite similar to Pangolier’s Swashbuckle but it has a very short range. Additionally, “the last strike in every Fury combo creates a damaging pulse around the target that slows movement and attack speed for 2.0s.”
Marci’s statistics and Talent Tree
Marci begins the game with a decent base damage of 56-60 and an armor of 3.3. Marci's base movement speed is also impressive at 310.
The Talent Tree, at a raw glance, appears to be one of Marci's strongest elements. Depending on whether she chooses to be a core or a support, she has appropriate choices in the level 10 and 15 talents. The level 20 talent of '1.75S Sidekick Spell Immunity' seems to be a massive power spike for the hero. There will be a difficult trade-off when it comes to the level 25 talents since both seem powerful. Most players, however, will likely opt for Silence, since an AoE silence in the latter stages can make all the difference.
Marci’s lore
Having seen Marci for the first time in March 2021, with the release of the anime, she has become a fan favorite and is being covered across memes and cosplays. Marci is a mute character in DOTA: Dragon's Blood and she possesses tremendous strength. As seen in the anime, she's also seen traveling at a rapid pace, hence we see similar spells inside the game. She also acts as a companion to Mirana in the anime.
The update describes the history of Marci as follows:
"Admired by many, Marci's origins are known to nameless few. She travels mostly in the company of the Princess Mirana, but the roots of their friendship are entwined in secrets neither would ever needlessly reveal. To allies, she serves as a fierce and honest companion. To enemies, she acts as dauntless deterrence against harming any she deems friend. Though unwise opponents may consider her size unremarkable, Marci possesses an inner power that imbues her strikes with incredible might. She'll decimate those who think to test her, but those who earn her favor will have an unflappable confidant for life."
As the hero is being largely played as a core in pubs, professional players tend to build Phase Boots into Armlet into BKB (Black King Bar). Silver Edge, Skull Basher, and Blink Dagger are other noteworthy alternatives depending on the situation of the game. The hero can dish out large amounts of physical damage and without any straightforward stun lockdown, Blink Dagger and Silver Edge can be useful.
It will gradually become clearer as to what role Marci will be best suited for and what buffs/nerfs she will need to undergo to be ready for Captain's Mode.
