Dota Atomic War is the latest custom Dota 2 game sensation that is gaining popularity. For the last couple of months, popular streamers have been playing the custom game, and the viewers seem to enjoy playing and watching it thoroughly. Dota Atomic War is a Rogue-like PVP mode similar to the Dota Auto Chess custom game that was all the rage in 2019.

Dota Atomic War is played by eight players at a time, each fighting a different opponent in each round. Because your heroes fight on their own, your purpose is to make them stronger and position them correctly on the battlefield board. As players lose rounds, their overall health reduces, and in the end, the last-man-standing is declared as the winner.

In our previous article on the Dota Atomic War, we explained the mechanics of the Lords. Next, we'll talk about the all-important shop, the heroes you play with, and how you earn gold to buy items and spells in the shop.

Dota Atomic War: Shop

After you enter the game, a shop (Hotkey - Spacebar) will be displayed on your screen, showing a certain set of heroes, items, and hero abilities. A new set of heroes, items, and hero abilities appear at the start of every round. The shop also has three options on the right end of it.

  1. The first option will close the shop.

  2. The second option is the “roll” button. It costs one gold, and by clicking on it, you will change the set of heroes and items available to you. The roll option can be accessed a maximum of three times in a particular round. In the first round, you can roll for free.

  3. The third option is the “lock” button. So, if you want to buy some heroes and items but don't have enough gold to do so, you can lock the set and purchase them when you earn enough gold at the start of the next round.

The shop can also be upgraded using the Upgrade option (Hotkey - F) on the bottom left of your screen. When you upgrade your shop, you not only have more items and spells to choose from but also better items. For example, initially, you might only be getting cheap items like Blade Mail and Vladmir’s Offering, but as you upgrade, items like Eye of Skadi and Daedalus will pop up.

Upgrading the shop costs the following:

  • Level 2 - 4 gold

  • Level 3 - 6 gold

  • Level 4 - 8 gold

  • Level 5 - 9 gold

  • Level 6 - 12 gold

Dota Atomic War: Items

Items, similar to heroes, cost 3 gold each. They can be purchased and equipped on the heroes that you have bought.

Items that scale like Dagon and Helm of the Dominator have different purchase options for each level. For example, Dagon 5 is a different item as compared to Dagon 1. Purchasing two Dagon 1 items will not upgrade them into one single Dagon 2.

Dota Atomic War: Spells

Any hero that you purchase has its default spells. However, since the heroes function on their own in the game, you can select the order in which you want them to cast the spells. In case you want Faceless Void to use Chronosphere first instead of Time Walk, you can manually accomplish it by swapping the places of the two spells.

In addition, Dota Atomic War allows you to purchase spells of other heroes and exchange them with the spells of the heroes that you are playing with. If you have bought Lifestealer and find Infest to be ineffective in fights, you can purchase Faceless Void’s Time Walk from the shop and exchange it for Infest. You can not purchase the Ultimate abilities of other heroes.

Notice in the image how Reflection has been changed for Rage for Terrorblade and the spells have been rearranged based on usage priority.

Similar to heroes and items, the spells also cost 3 gold each.

Dota Atomic War: Gold

Gold is your only source to buy heroes, items, and spells in the game. You begin the game with 3 gold and more of it can be earned by playing rounds. You can earn a maximum of 12 gold in a particular round.

Additionally, the other way to earn gold is by selling heroes, items, and spells that you feel are not required anymore. All three aspects can be sold for 2 gold each.
