Perfect World Announces Shanghai Major as Second CS2 Major of 2024

China is all set to host the first-ever Major in the second half of 2024. The official announcement was made by Perfect World on 12th November during the final day of the CS2 Asia Championships 2023.
Right before FaZe Clan won its third consecutive CS2 tournament by handing a clean 2-0 defeat to MOUZ in the grand finals, Perfect World dropped a pleasant surprise by announcing the Shanghai Major 2024, scheduled to take place in December next year.
Shanghai Major 2024: Perfect World to Host Second CS2 Major Next Year
The CS2 Asia Championships 2023 took place in Shanghai, China after a hiatus of four years and it was quite the spectacle. Top teams were invited along with select Chinese teams that qualified through another regional event, competing for a total prize pool of $500,000 USD.
In the past week from 8th to 12th November, the teams gave it their absolute best as FaZe Clan extended its record win streak to 15 matches while also walking away with its third consecutive tournament victory.
However, there was another highlight aside from FaZe Clan's brilliant performance, the announcement of the second CS2 Major that will also be taking place in Shanghai, China in December 2024.
As per the official announcement made by Perfect World, they will be acting as both the hosts and the organizers of this Major, which is the first-ever to take place in China since Valve decided to support it.
Before the release of Counter-Strike 2, Perfect World and BLAST competed with each other to host the second Major of 2023, which was eventually canceled.
However, with the dual Major competitive setup returning next year, Perfect World has won the bid and now we have information about both the world championship events.
PGL Copenhagen Major 2024 taking place in the first quarter from 17th to 31st March.
Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 taking place in the fourth quarter in December 2024, information about the exact dates has not been revealed yet.
It will be interesting to see how this event works out and hopefully, Perfect World, who is Valve's partner from China and a regional tournament organizer, will be able to execute it without facing any serious hiccups.
