Counter-Strike 2 is arriving in Summer 2023 as a free upgrade for all Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) players. Many are wondering what will happen to CS:GO once Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) launches since there are players who have built up a collection of skins and cases over the years.
CS:GO players will retain all existing items in Counter-Strike 2
Once Counter-Strike 2 launches, CS:GO will no longer be available. All players will be transitioned to the new game and your CS:GO inventory will also be transferred.
When Valve announced Counter-Strike 2, it revealed that all CS:GO items will be transferred over to Counter-Strike 2 and you do not have to worry about losing any items. With CS2 being a direct upgrade for existing CS:GO players, you don’t have to worry about manually transferring your items. When the game releases, all of your items will automatically be classified under Counter-Strike 2 in the Steam Marketplace.
We recommend keeping track of your CS:GO inventory and reach out to Steam Support in case of any items going missing when Counter-Strike 2 launches.
Launch Steam and click on your username (next to the Community tab)
Click on Inventory
Browse through all of your CS:GO/CS2 items and check their current marketplace values
You will need to go through all of your items and total the amount
While there are third-party tools that can automate this process, we do not recommend linking third-party apps to Steam unless it’s from a verified publisher.
If you notice any missing CS:GO items when Counter-Strike 2 launches:
Head to the Steam Help page
Click on Trading, Gifting, Market and Steam Points
Click on Items
Click on “My Items are Missing or Stolen”
Explain your problem and you should receive a response within 24 hours.
