Fnatic has opened its SEA 2021 DPC Season 2: Upper Division victory account by defeating BOOM Esports 2-1. Though BOOM Esports took a 1-0 lead in the series, Fnatic bounced back in the next couple of games to reverse sweep their opponents. Both teams had looked lackluster in various moments in the game, but Fnatic proved to be the better team on the day as they ended the series in their favor. BOOM Esports has now lost two on the trot and find themselves sitting on the third spot while DJ and his teammates have won their first series after a disappointing loss against Execration in their opening encounter.

Fnatic vs BOOM Esports: Match Recap, Highlights, and Interview

Game 1 saw both teams opting to just farm in the first 10 minutes as it recorded just five kills. However, BOOM was happier with this trade since Dreamocel’s Phantom Lancer had no major counters in the later parts of the game, and Mikoto was dominating on his mid Puck as well. With a better draft on deck, BOOM won the first game in 33 minutes.

Game 2 witnessed Fnatic taking the lead in the early stages of the game. However, BOOM kept the networth lead in check, putting themselves in a decent position throughout the game. However, Fnatic played the crucial teamfights comparatively better, allowing them to win the game in 32 minutes.

Game 3 was a much better performance coming in from the side of Fnatic though BOOM had a better draft. BOOM’s heroes made some questionable plays and did not buy the required items to deal with their enemies. Raven’s Medusa had become a beast and could not be taken down as BOOM lost the third game in 38 minutes.

Here are some highlights of the series.

Though Fnatic did not look particularly clean in their performance in the series, they will be glad to secure their first DPC series victory. They still have a tough road ahead as they need to face the likes of TNC Predator, OB.Neon and T1. Fnatic will have to quickly rediscover their mojo with ChYuan in the offlane in order to surpass these tough opponents.

On the other hand, BOOM will need to grab victories against top teams if they plan to go to the next Major. With OB.Neon and Fnatic already defeating them, they desperately need some wins in their upcoming series against TNC Predator and T1.

Interview: Fnatic DJ talks about ChYuan’s addition to Fnatic

Fnatic’s captain, Djardel Jicko B. "DJ" Mampusti, talked about how their latest offlaner, Ng "ChYuan" Kee Chyuan, was scouted and ultimately recruited by the team in the offlane considering he has traditionally been a midlaner.

“I think our coach (SunBhie) has been scouting him for a long time, not sure why but he thinks he can be a good offlaner. And also, there is not a lot of time left before we can submit our roster to Valve. So, we are really in a hurry. We kind of have to move fast. Same for Masaros, we kinda have to announce him really early so he can find a team.”

In addition, DJ acknowledged that there was still room for improvement for his side, and they “were just trying their best.”
